Best tracks ever rating system 2009-07-07 19:12:57

Hey all,

I did a quick search and didn't come up with anything though I'm pretty sure this has been asked before, maybe just a long time ago.

Anyways, can someone tell me the system/formula used for the "best tracks ever"? I assumed it was just based on ratings but that doesn't seem to be the case; as one piece with 4.04 is actually above another one with 4.34. I then assumed that it was based on ratings with extra weight given to those tracks with the highest number of votes, but the 4.34 track is below another song that has a lower rating AND fewer votes.

Could it be, then, that it is only updated every so often (rather than real-time, perhaps by a bot?), whereas each individual rating changes in real-time and that's why they end up seeming out of order?

*Breaths in DEEPLY*

When a song reaches a certain number of listens it has the ability to be ranked, (i think its 20) this rank on most songs is in the thousands, as the actual score of the song goes up the ranking number gets lower and lower. When the rank number reaches a number lower than thirty than it will only show up on the top 30 if it is at that score on a tuesday night at midnight. This is the time that that the top thirty gets chosen.
this is also the time that a bunch of thirteen year olds zero-bomb the living shit out of all the top thirties in every genre.

any more questions

Alright, I suppose that makes sense.

One more question.

Do most people rate their own music 5/5? I don't do so, but I do know that it's possible so if everybody else does it I may as well to level the playing field...

Your choice. Everybody has the ability to vote on each submission once per day, including their own work. So yes, it's possible to vote 5/5 on your work every day.

I wonder if the AP ranking system will be ever taken seriously to the point where the current structure forbids a slew of 0-bombs. Like after you bomb 2-3 submissions with 0's, a red flag goes up and punches you in the cock.

But in all seriousness, if what you're aiming for is to hit the boards, just check in every tuesday night and see if you're doing well. I have been up on the top 30 only 3 times but I really can't give any advice out of the normal "Get your music into some flash-based stuff"

I second (third?) that.

Actually, it might just work as well if you had a system where when your vote changes the submission's score significantly downwards after the first 20 votes, your voting power is modified to the negative somewhat. That way, people who zero-bomb everything would end up with a voting power below 1 very, very quickly. And then nobody would have to give a crap about zero-bombers getting at their hard work. =D

Although, there is a certain appeal to the idea that they get punched in the cock... Functional AND satisfying. ...HEY, TOM!!!

Most of the time, messing with the rating system doesn't fix this kind of thing because the problem is actually due to human nature. That's why I don't put much thought to my ratings, and instead just wait to read reviews.

I can't say what you guys are proposing isn't worth a shot, though. If it helps even a little, then it'll be worth it.
