I said if we raised the money for Blizzard's surgery, I would announce a new area of the site ahead of schedule. Since we did in UNDER FOUR HOURS, I'll make the announcement today!
Well here it is... The Newgrounds Wiki.
SURE BEATS CHAT RIGHT?
Goldfish wanted to set up a Wiki as a place to manage the upcoming API documentation, but the system is so handy that our goal is to run all the site-related docs through it. It keeps information more unified and gives us less static pages to chase down when we redesign the site.
You will find that most of the existing docs have already been ported over. The question and answer format has been removed from the FAQ materials, which now reside under Using the Site.
We now have a history section with an updated version of the site history - all 15 years! I intend to move the Flash Portal history pages into here, along with new pages highlighting site trends and stories from over the years. This is gonna be an epic long-term project.
I'm especially excited for the Developer Resources section, which will hopefully save us from answering so many PMs asking "How do I make stuff?"
You can finally learn about all the ways to make money on our monetization page, and we'll be updating that as improvements are made to the rev share system.
We've also set up a tutorials section, which will replace our current collection of Flash tutorials and keep expanding on it.
I want to make special note of our Game and Movie Standards, partly inspired by the TRCs and TCRs imposed on us by Microsoft and Sony in the console realm. These standards aren't requirements, but recommendations to get better results from your games and movies. They are also what we prefer for games and movies that we sponsor.
The Meets and Events section will ultimately link up with an upcoming calendar system, so we can all keep better track of the various NG meets happening around the world. Follow-up pages will fall under the history section of the Wiki. On that note, the NYC Meet is this weekend!
We're gonna try really hard to not let things get out of control, yet offer a greater depth of knowledge about NG and what you need to know to live a fruitful life here.
While the entire community can't edit pages ala Wikipedia (can you imagine that?!) we can grant per-section access to individual users. If you think there is a section or page you could manage, consider this before contacting me:
1) You must be able to write well and organize your thoughts in a succinct manner.
2) You must be a familiar user who has been actively involved with the site for a while.
If you fit that criteria and can put together a serious proposal, there may be a place in the Wiki where you could help! Feel welcome to make suggestions in this thread. Right now we're open to where the wiki can expand and where it can be more concise. Also note the styling and navigation are rough - we aren't bothering to improve it until the switch to a wide layout.
