South Park: The Game Dec 1, 2011

http://www.gameinformer.com/b/news/archi ve/2011/12/01/cover-reveal-south-park.as px

Turns out the South Park guys are having another go with a game, only this one will be an RPG. I would usually shrug this off as just another game based on a show/movie looking for a quick buck, but it says that the creators are personally overseeing the writing and development so it got me interested.

Thoughts?

I'd actually like the idea of a South Park RPG if it's got a fantasy theme to it.

I would to. Also seeing as how the last thread is such a downer and with a misleading title, I'll be bumping this one.

That actually looks awesome, I thought this is just going to be another lame video game based on a popular TV series so they can milk some more money but it actually looks interesting !

I'm loving this. If Stone and Parker treat this like they treated their broadway musical, we could be in for a fantastic video game.

;D

Coping with daily life in the town, fending off crazed gingers and mobs of homeless. I would dig it. It's just...I don't have any of the systems it's coming out on. :(

Shouldn't Butters be Professor Chaos?

Seeing as the other thread doesn't have an obvious title, I guess we can make this the 'official' thread for the game.

Even so, a South Park RPG? I can't say I'm particularly excited, but who knows, it might turn out to be decent. South Park Rally turned out to be a pretty fun game, from what I remember.

Thats not his character from the Lord Of the Rings episode which is what the game must be implying from. He was golem.

An Rpg of South Park? Sounds kind of dumb... Will see, sounds like they'll mess it up again. South Park Creators I think help work on the games only doing the voice-overs, I don't think they give them any control over some of the other stuff. Which is ashame, because I know Matt and Trey are gamers and probably could make a good game themselves but they don't have the time probably since they've been working on new episodes of southpark and other projects.

Yeah, I'm with this idea as well. Users are more likely to search for "south" and "park" than "obsidian" t find a thread for this game.

More info about the game

- Based on Dungeon Siege III engine
- Turn based combat similar to Mario RPG games. Enemies appear on field before you combat them and attack and defenses are augmented by timed input
- Some sort of ability system similar to the materia
- Summons
- Parts or all of the game could be two-dimensional. It's not entirely clear.

They are going to watch over the development, so nothing will be made without their approval ;)
Who knows, it might be an awesome game. Then again, it might turn out to be total shit.

Meh, although I'm not particularly excited for this game at the end of a day Obsidian are a good developer and they usually tend to care about their games, so I doubt it'll be as bad as you make it out. Admittedly, this is a far more broad base they have been given. Where in the past most of Obsidian's games are sequels to games developed by other studios and thus they start off where others finish, their background of this is an entire cartoon, with no set existing plots or such (seeing as there's a new one every week). I'm looking forward to seeing how they deal with it, and hopefully they'll pull it off and make it a good game, all we can do is wait and see.

I agree. It probably wont capture the scope and feel of a Final Fantasy game or an Elder Scrolls or even a Paper Mario, but I think it's a little pessimistic to say that it will barely pass as an RPG here on Newgrounds. Of course the record for games in the South Park franchise is pretty pathetic, but if Matt and Trey are involved enough to be doing interviews I'd like to think there's a glimmer of hope for this one.

I remain optimistic.

I'm looking forward to this. I read the Gameinformer featured story about it and it looks promising. I loved the dynamic turn based combat found in the Mario RPGs and I'm glad that they're holding on to the original art style rather than attempting 3D.

The screenshots you saw in that video The-Great-One posted is basically what you'll see in game. When people were testing it, they said people walking past could easily mistake that you're just watching an episode of South Park.

I hope the story is good though, as most of South Park's comedy parodies what's happening in the world throughout that week, they'll have to come up with original content over the course of several months, which is looking promising.

And unlike the other South Park games, Trey and Matt will actually be working with Obsidian and writing the story. That, I'm anticipating.

We had some good times, Newgrounds.

Do we know yet if this is going to be a full length $60 game or a downloadable title?

I'm pretty sure it'll be a full length game, but then again there's a good chance of it being something downloadable.

I might only be a caasual South Park watcher, but I like how it's looking so far, and I would definitely buy this - provided I buy a PS3 in the near future.

It's funny you say that because from what I remember, the creators of the show have said that the South Park games that came out in the 1990s were awful and that they wanted to make something that was way better than those titles. I kinda have to agree with them, too...

South Park is dead I would rather that Stone and Parker just go back to making an occasional movie every once in a while.

Its definitely having voice acting. Well, I'm assuming this, but I'm pretty damn sure it will.

I don't even think Parker and Stone had anything to do with the other South Park games, if I remember right.

I do know that I'm very excited about this game. I wasn't really too sure about it at first, but the GameInformer article really hyped me up. I think Parker and Stone are two very funny people, and I can't wait to see what they can come up with for a video game.
