Army Of Two: The Devil's Cartel 2012-08-02 15:59:04

A new Army of Two game was recently announced. Very little information about it as of now but this video gives an idea of what to expect. Sounds like Salem and Rios are returning from The 40th Day, and there'll be two new playable characters as well, although here's hoping they eventually get better names than "Alpha" and "Bravo". It will be running on Frostbite 2, Ã la Battlefield 3, so I'm sure it'll deliver in terms of visuals and sounds, as well as stuff simply blowing up. I'm guessing the next Game Informer issue will have more info on the game.
So is anyone else into the Army of Two games? Hopefully I'm not the only one here.

Me and my brother play the first one a lot. I'm not sure if he's gonna get the second game yet. I hope EA doesn't remove the local co op.

I doubt they would do something as stupid as that. The co-op (local or online) is pretty much what makes Army of Two the game it is. Well, that, and the nutty customization and "I love you bro! No homo!" moments between the characters.

Some more information: March 2013 is the expected release date, although I wouldn't be surprised if it gets delayed. Also, apparently the game will go for a grittier, more mature tone. Considering the jump from being frat boys in the first game to potential ruthless sociopaths in the second, I'm not sure how they could possibly manage more of that sort of thing. I really hope we're not stuck to playing as two grizzled ass wipes who never crack jokes or random Wu-Tang clan references though, because that's what gave Salem and Rios their own personal charm in my opinion.

More info the new characters Alpha and Bravo, as well as what Salem and Rios have been doing, should it interest anyone.
I do believe I'll favor playing as Alpha. He has that more professional, efficient, not-entirely-crazy character, like Rios was before him. I'm almost sure Alpha will be the smart guy and Bravo will be the "I like explosions!" kind of dude.
Kind of a bummer Rios is stuck to being a voice with an internet connection, like Alice was to him and Salem. Hopefully we'll at least get a few missions to play as the old Army of Two here and there.

I'm all for Bravo, he will rely more on pure skill to survive. I can't wait for this game though. The story to 40th day was horrible, the decisions you made seemed like damned if you do, damned if you don't.

New trailer for The Devil's Cartel, as well as a gameplay demo from Gamescom.

Well, I'm hyped to get my hands on this, now.

New gameplay video, should it interest anyone.
Jeez, Alpha is ugly under that mask...

I think I'll give this a friendly bump since the release date is getting closer. I'm still pretty hyped about it.

Also, are any of you feeling creative? There's a contest for designing your own Army of Two mask. Details here.
Speaking of masks, it looks like you can create designs for your masks in-game now, instead of having to do it in a program from a website like in The 40th Day. It'll be like making designs for a car in Forza, but instead for some fancy face armor. Fucking sweeeeet~.

A demo should be out on the 12th, for those who are interested in trying the game out. Which is probably like 3 other people aside from myself, and that's being generous. Might just be pessimism talking though.
I must be honest, I'm not comfortable with the idea of them abandoning the bromance and frat-boy nature of the game and instead making it more serious and grim (apparently more so than the second game was). We have enough of those type of shooters as is, I think. But alas, if the gameplay and co-op is good, I still have some interest in this.

And here's some masks some people designed.

I remember playing Army of Two a long time ago. I'm sure this one should be just as good. Hopefully I can get it if and when it comes out.

New trailer, "Speak of the Devil". I'll be honest, this trailer actually makes it look BAD-ASS. Dammit, now I'm getting hyped even more about this game.
It also has got me wondering who the hell is behind that red mask in the beginning of the video. Can't be Rios since he shown a lot, and Salem has also been shown just enough in screenshots to give me the impression that it wouldn't be him. A part of me wants to believe that it's Clyde (the psycho with a mohawk from the first game) back from the dead yet again, which he seemed quite capable of in the first game (survived a sinking aircraft carrier, a grenade, and a plane crash, falling from a building in a flooded city doesn't seem unlikely for him to limp away from as well). I doubt it's anyone from The 40th Day since basically any named character in that ended up dead in the end.
Well, one way to find out who it really is I guess: play the game!

Tuesday, get here with the demo already, damn you!

Didn't he call him "El Diablo" or something?

I believe so, yeah. Gotta have a fancy nickname when you're a bad guy, right?

Almost every game/movie set in Mexico dealing with drug cartels has someone named Diablo, but this game does look awesome.

The demo is out today, and I was able to play it. Honestly, playing it kinda discourages me a little bit. Something about how the game controls and feels now just doesn't feel right. From what I played, there is no dodge-rolling of any sort, something that was in the first and second game, and movement doesn't seem as fluid, having to hold a button for half a second or so for the command to go through (be it vaulting over cover, breaking through a door, initiating a co-op move, etc.). Dashing and melee are now set to clicking in the left- and right-stick, respectively, and crouching is set to B (or Circle for you PS3 boys), and it's odd to use at first. First-person shooter controls in a third-person game is just fucking weird, yo, but I can adapt to it. The gunplay itself is good enough, so not much to say there. There is also limited customization for guns, and it feels more like the first game's customization rather than the second's (as in, you can't put an AK-47 barrel on an M4 anymore it seems [SADFACE]), and it is pretty cool.
All in all, I don't think I'll be getting this when it comes out. Maybe wait for a price drop or something on it. Just doesn't seem worth the $60.
