Never really thought about it. But the game terraria seemed to have a lot of hype. Does anyone here still play it? If so why?

I played it a bit, and it is definitely one of the more addicting games out there. It has the appeal the minecraft has, while also providing a more adventurous aspect to the player as well.
I played it for a good while to be honest, I lost my interests in time though, you just get tired of it.
It is a great game, what can i say, many hours of fun, and do what the fuck you want while getting every item ever.
It's really good. I don't still play it, and haven't played it since shortly after it came out. Unlike Minecraft it has an end goal, defeat all of the bosses and get the best armour. After you do that there's really not much point in playing it. You could build cool stuff but it isn't really as fun to do in Terraria as it is in Minecraft.
I'd say it's worth buying. For $10 you get more than you get out of a lot of $40-$60 games. I beat all of the bosses and got the best armour and weapons in 45 hours, and they've added a lot of content since then.
It was incredibly good until they had this major update and now its only alright. Original terraria was such a great game.
I played it for a while with a friend, was fun, worth the £2.50 I got it for.
I don't play it at the moment, might do it again at some point, same as Minecraft both fun but mostly for when you are in the mood for them, but either way worth the money.
It doesn't have the appeal of Minecraft. I love Minecraft but I can't really get into Terraria. In Terraria it feels much less rewarding to build a structure since it's only in 2D, but I will agree that Terraria has a better adventuring aspect.
I would give Terraria a better chance if me and my friend could actually connect to each other and play together.
Arise to sky and set free - Release toward horizon
I play it off and on.
A fun game, but sometimes building can be really fucking tedious.
It does combat and movement really well, and mining is pretty fun.
Take it with a grain of salt, I am slower than a snail.

100% agree. It's a shame, too, seeing as the game is heavily reliant on NPC's (with the great weapons, armor and pylons they offer) it practically forces you to make shitty little houses that overall ruin the aesthetic of the natural scenery.
Plus the building just sucks in general. Besides that, incredible game, especially when you mod it, since it heavily focuses on and enhances the combat and exploration of the game, too (Calamity).
