Hi,

I'm new here, sorry :)

I am just messing about with animation on Adobe and i have created a 4 frame stick-man walking animation. What I don't understand is how to get the walking man to move from one side of the screen to the other (tweening?). At present the stick-man is animated but he is rooted to the spot.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Regards,

GingerOverlord.

Welcome to Newgrounds.

You have to put the stickman's frames into a graphic symbol. With that symbol you can make a Tween on the main timeline.

Here's a tutorial video for you.

are you sure this tutorial isn't misleading because it says motion tween but what it actually teach is classic tween

Depends on the version he's using. Back in the Macromedia days it was still called "motion tween".

Ginger, I think you'd get a nice chunk of help on learning to animate by watching SpazKidin3D's Flash CS3 tutorials. (Which in most ways universally apply to all versions of Flash), and from there look for other specific stuff when you have something you'd like to figure out, or experiment around.

Note that Spazkid doesn't exactly have an appropriate channel for all ages, and he does swear in his tutorials, if that's an issue to you.

What you need Ginger is to convert those 4 frames into a symbol first. Look up into the top bars click Insert, select create new symbol, ok. You'll then be inside of a symbol.

Go back to the scene and copy the four frames of your stickguy walking and paste them inside the symbol.

Now go back to the scene, and create a large frame, size depending on how fast/long you want him walking
Look into your library and find the symbol with the walking stickguy frames and drag it into the large frame.

After that, right click on the large frame and select create motion tween. This'll make your frame blue. Now here is the technical junk.
Scroll your red bar to the front of the frame and and move the symbol to where you want it to be at the start of the scene, then scroll your red bar to the end of the frame and move the symbol where you want it to be at the end of the frame.
Later when you want to get more technical you can actually make transformations and add effects to symbols but for now you should be golden with that.
