I flagged him too, I'm surprized the songs are still up. And yeah, his reaction is pretty funny. I generally don't interact with people like that unless I'm trying to help, because they're a musician; they know what they're doing. It's not like your average GD player which I can actually help by pointing them towards LMMS, Cakewalk, or Bosca Ceoil, this is someone who knows how to make music and got lazy. Also I generally don't call people out in the comments for using AI anymore, as I've seen users then hide "their" music and come back later, doing their best to make it seem less AI. I also got a comment ban for a week, because you're not supposed to accuse anyone of anything there (might be more than that, not entirely sure).


I've never understood people that talk about how generative AI is somehow "the future" when all it is made of is data from the past. There's no actual innovation (at leat not yet). But yeah, I hope either Tom or ADR3-N look at that user and confirm that some of the most recent songs are a majority AI.

@G2961 As @Questtrek has already pointed out, there is nothing johnnyq1233 could sue for - not in the US and not anywhere else. To take apart the report system for a second: The Newgrounds servers are private property and even if there were neither ToS nor Audio Portal Guidelines, Mr. Fulp could delete uploaded data as he pleased. I can pretty much guarantee you that the tracks in question were reported by multiple users, once word got out. That's comparable to "calling someone" about a situation. Then that someone, be it a authorized member of the moderation staff or Tom Fulp himself made the actual decision to remove. And nobody using AI to create songs for them can complain that they did not see it coming. At the time of me typing, the very first sentence in the Audio Guidelines is "Do not upload AI-generated audio!" That user had to click "Agree" a few times to info boxes letting him know the site rules. There's no excuse there.


To be fair: AI could be used to aid* the creation of audio, but the member of the moderation staff decided that this was not the case for the uploads that were removed.

(* I think AI voices might be okay to use on Newgrounds if you feed it your own voice as a pattern. I'm not an expert on this and I can't remember my source. Do your own research and don't quote me on that! Also: Rules might change.)


But even if johnnyq1233 took a lawyer... Any judge who would take the time to look at this would ask for the actual projected damages and the site's Terms of Service, even if the other side didn't even show up for the first hearing. Because judges don't want to show up in the press as some kinds of dinosaurs who do not even understand the stuff they are supposed to judge for. (We are talking about humans here - not mindless parts in a machine.) But @johnnyq1233 would 100% find a lawyer willing to take the case. Lawyers need to eat and people want to "at least try...". I would not morally judge any lawyer indulging such a client. It will be one consultation meeting, one or two letters, one visit to court (if even that), and of course one invoice in the lower triple digits for a job that doesn't even impact their track record because the matter was dismissed immediately. I find them earning money that way considerably less dubious than defending a client who run over a dog.


I hope that helped to calm everybody's nerves a bit and made the situation as transparent as humanly possible.


While johnnyq1233 sounds absolutely divorced from the real world in those PMs, the account exists since 2008 and at a glance his behavior towards the community in past years looked rather positive. This is 100% speculation on my part, but maybe another person got their hands on that account. Maybe a phone got stolen. Maybe the person who originally created the account and a grand-kid got the PC. Maybe he is on heavy medication at the moment and isn't himself right now. Maybe he's too ashamed to admit he did wrong and got caught and went temporarily insane. We have no way of knowing for sure.


Please(!) do not write reports about "That account might be compromised... Maybe... Idunno..." to Tom Fulp unless you have any new information that resembles actual evidence. Because the only thing Mr. Fulp could say in return would be "Idunno either..."


I admit that I can understand anyone who would find this situation interesting/fascinating/funny, and I am not a moderator, but it would probably be for the best if the topic-migration in the Audio Portal Cleanup wouldn't be taken further than it already has. ;)

This guy went to the dark side. What a shame. 


This guy has been on Newgrounds for a long time only to come back after nearly 20 years with a Suno track. The spectrogram cuts off at 19kHz, indicating a bitrate of 192kbps, the max output of Suno. Vocals sound typical of Suno too. A past YouTube video by them show them already leaning into AI prompts, so I’m not surprised they just started using Suno.

Hey, everybody! I was so excited when I came to what I did today! I thought we were able to do away with the audio portal, which is completely filled with AI songs. At this point, yes! But there's residue left over from the past few months that is worth searching and deleting, which is what I'm going to do until the last one, until this audio portal is completely filled with creativity and not AI crap!


Special attentions:


I really love going through what was done a few months ago, so much so that I even found an account with 29 Suno AI songs, which, by the way, has scout. Seems worth it now to dig into places I haven't explored.

He managed to cheat our audio portal from April 1, 2024, to July 5, 2024, but then I came along and won't let him do it anymore.


I SWEAR! It's definitely udio, and he's fooling everyone! Of course, he changed everything in the file description, probably to hide the "Udio v1".


Again, Suno AI user. but with 4 songs but has scout!

Hello again, everyone! I found the illegal audio again!


And as usual, special attention:


He uploaded 4 AI songs, he even wrote himself that he used AI but "the lyrics belong to him" but "it doesn't work that way, bro", so "his" songs should be deleted. By the way, he has Supporter status and came to this site in 2008. He also has a scout, so that makes for such a combo here, lol.


This bro is still uploading AI audio, even after removing some AI songs, I recommend blocking him from uploading audio projects to this site.

I second what @G9261 said. DragonWriter is uploading AI songs, and it’s not just the vocals. The whole songs are made with AI. In the metadata of the songs, they all have a bitrate around 256kbps, which is fine, but when analyzed in a spectrogram, they all have a cutoff at 19kHz, meaning that they originally had a bitrate of 192kbps (max output of Suno AI), not 256kbps. Not only that, but there’s just so many little artifacts. The drums sound like sand on some of them, and the mixing feels off. "The Land of the Unfree" has those crusty high tones. The “different versions” of the songs sound nothing like each other. I’m fairly certain this was all made with AI, my best guess being Suno AI (but it could also be Udio).

@G2961 As @Questtrek has already pointed out, there is nothing johnnyq1233 could sue for - not in the US and not anywhere else. But even if johnnyq1233 took a lawyer... Any judge who would take the time to look at this would ask for the actual projected damages and the site's Terms of Service, even if the other side didn't even show up for the first hearing. Because judges don't want to show up in the press as some kinds of dinosaurs who do not even understand the stuff they are supposed to judge for. (We are talking about humans here - not mindless parts in a machine.) But @johnnyq1233 would 100% find a lawyer willing to take the case. Lawyers need to eat and people want to "at least try...". I would not morally judge any lawyer indulging such a client. It will be one consultation meeting, one or two letters, one visit to court (if even that), and of course one invoice in the lower triple digits for a job that doesn't even impact their track record because the matter was dismissed immediately. I find them earning money that way considerably less dubious than defending a client who run over a dog.

I hope that helped to calm everybody's nerves a bit and made the situation as transparent as humanly possible.

While johnnyq1233 sounds absolutely divorced from the real world in those PMs, the account exists since 2008 and at a glance his behavior towards the community in past years looked rather positive. This is 100% speculation on my part, but maybe another person got their hands on that account. Maybe a phone got stolen. Maybe the person who originally created the account and a grand-kid got the PC. Maybe he is on heavy medication at the moment and isn't himself right now. Maybe he's too ashamed to admit he did wrong and got caught and went temporarily insane. We have no way of knowing for sure.

Please(!) do not write reports about "That account might be compromised... Maybe... Idunno..." to Tom Fulp unless you have any new information that resembles actual evidence. Because the only thing Mr. Fulp could say in return would be "Idunno either..."

I admit that I can understand anyone who would find this situation interesting/fascinating/funny, and I am not a moderator, but it would probably be for the best if the topic-migration in the Audio Portal Cleanup wouldn't be taken further than it already has. ;)

Finishing a piece is crucial to getting a piece that I want to further work on.

While I understand some aspects of that kind of work, I don't even understand a fraction of what scouted audio artists know about the process - let alone an Audio Portal moderator. Correct me if I'm wrong, but if I remember that situation correctly that was the topic: Some tracks you uploaded to Newgrounds had been removed by an Audio Portal moderator in accordance with the site rules. And then you directed your anger towards a 16-year old who reported you for it. Rather that to talk to an Audio Portal moderator who made the actual decision or the person who came up with the rules you disagree with, it appears that your first thought led you down a path where you tried to extract money from regular Newgrounds-user @G2961 for acting in accordance with the NG site rules. While threatening him with legal actions, that did not have a snowballs chance in hell - which you, as an experienced veteran, would "probably" already have known about. As well as everything else I just laid out.


Let me be clear: In light of that thought process of yours, I do not find it in my heart to care about what stupid AI bullshit you did or did not pull! So please excuse me, if I will not discuss the finer points of risks and benefits of AI in music production with you, @johnnyq1233.


Did I leave anything out there or does that about cover it? Please, by all means: Get yourself into deeper poo than you already have...
