We're excited to announce that Newgrounds has partnered with OpenAI, a non-profit artificial intelligence research company that aims to carefully promote and develop friendly AI in such a way as to benefit, rather than harm, humanity as a whole. Elon Musk (Tesla, SpaceX, Hyperloop) is one of the founders.
This partnership involves Universe, a software platform for measuring and training an AI's general intelligence across the world's supply of games, websites and other applications.
When you publish a game on Newgrounds, you now have the option to include it in the Universe research project, where an AI will attempt to learn and play your game while documenting the results. Look for the checkbox at the bottom of your project details form (screenshot below), with information and terms of participation. Once your game passes judgment on NG, it will be pushed to Universe.
You can also submit your existing games to this project, which we hope many developers will do. Simply click the red pencil icon on the top right of your game page to access the project details, then read and agree to the OpenAI terms. You will need to then click the publish button and complete the publish process for your game to be submitted.
The results of your game being played by the AI will be publicly available - we'll be looking into tying that data back to your game project on NG, so it's easy to find.
We hope this will be a fun experiment for game developers, while progressing AI in a way that is open and beneficial to all!
