Today, however, I think Tom is trying to stop relying on ads and have more of the money given through subscriptions as a way to keep Independence. Luckily, this subscription plan doesn't really impede too much on experience, we're not blocked from anything, just small niche bonuses, like username changes and more dumping space. Well, maybe that "secret content?" I dunno.
Just seems to be going for the TF2-styled freemium plan and not a mobile one, for the most part.

In addition to how it reflects on the site, it's also really awkward if young kids stumble into it, so we've been trying to make it something you need to actually be looking for to find.
It is a bit TOO hidden at the moment because we don't have visible ratings filters in the main content hubs and search results. Currently you have to go deeper in to the game and movie hubs to find the ratings filter, or open the Advanced search options to find it in search. Some of that will be changing so it isn't quite as hidden.

just wanna say the controversy of kids stumbling into adult sections is yes, weird, but also, something I experienced as a kid. Obviously kids are gonna find porn somehow. Even I came to newgrounds and found porn as a kid.
Actually, I found hentai on newgrounds I think at first, because I couldn't figure out how to like find, actual porn as a ten year old. Possibly i was exposed to more adult material this way, or less. pretty hard to tell when you can never conduct a science experiment twice in the same place and time, u feel me. expectations are that more adult content = kids and families being more upset with the web, and its not cool to act like its ok for kids to find adult content. actually i wonder if the hentai on newgrounds is part of what helped me be a more open minded person as I developed into more of myself, is it weird to consider that? rationally, i cant say, oh well the adult content on here isnt too extreme, maybe it would be better for a younger person to stumble upon adult material here, with relatively less sketchy website hopping than on tube sites. all im trying to say i guess, is that an adult element existing to newgrounds makes it almost more of a life development and existence center in a strange way, that i cant say means that the content shouldn't be hidden. for real, if you can switch your ETMA preferences easily enough, kids could find pretty raunchy hentai in the art portal. this doesnt seem any different than like, deviant art persay. eh, it's still valid to consider. Rambling a bit--but I think maybe the art portal was the key step in the bridge here,, having a little bit of more accessible adult content but keeping the really crazier shit up far off the counter.
I guess in a way it is just a reflection of a more twisted and repressed part of our culture as humans. Does anyone else see how it's weird that people make more fuss over sexuality than sheer violence? I dont have all the data, most accurate observations, or answers. Strange to thing about... Seems like as a kid, the violence was expected to never translate to behavior (id argue for many it does, in a subtle and insidious way) but they cant keep you from touching your donger because that would just be mean. Even abusive, to keep kids from touching themselves, but you don't want to sexualize them, or corrupt them, so you don't really encourage it. Drastic differences exist in every household I guess, I should be thankful that my parents weren't mean assholes.
i guess i didnt mean to turn this into a long rant but since im going ill just talk about my thoughts on the matters. Not sure if they're still on here, but there used to be dress up games that did use actual photos of women. The memory serves that there were games with celebrities, and all kinds of like customizable tits, body parts etc. Erotic pictures mixed with the oftentimes strange elements of flash games, and experimental games, understandably could disturb someone trying to expose someone to the right things first. Really I guess it's pointless to mull over all the details of why someone might be more 'offended' or concerned is the right word i guess, over what their kid found online if they find it. Not trying to make it seem like the only problem is parents finding out that a kid found something sexual in this aspect, but it seems like if parents werent as worried and were more lax, itd be easier for them to tell their kids to shut their goddamn mouths when they are being sexually disrespectful, ignorant, or just foolish because theyre trying to imitate something they saw online with a limited knowledge or context of why the thing they saw was even made. Extremely weird to think about that, like, everyone views adult material for slightly different personal gratifications, and makes them and designs them for different reasons as well, based on what they have seen. The whole thing can't be one hundred percent monkey see monkey do I don't think, there are specific reasons we do things, with deeper meanings, that are going to be lost to kids and this is part of the reason adults try to keep them from these things so that they won't use this knowledge irresponsibly.
maybe it's my own lack of understanding of the world that I am looking this deeply into it. A person has to wonder about the nuances when it comes to protecting the next generation and how that plays into presenting certain content. Some people would say it should be easier to find, some would say even harder than it already is. The consensus seems to be that you can't please everybody one hundred percent. Even I am conflicted about the right decision and I am completely separated from it, but maybe my lack of actual knowledge is why I am so split. Really, when it comes down to it, we just don't want to scar people. So who can tell what's going to shock someone at the wrong time, how we can raise kids to be able to handle their shit when they see something crazy, and how it all works as part of the big picture?
Challenges in comprehension such as this make you wonder, what are the real affects of creating certain types of content, or really doing anything, ever? Obviously you can't drive yourself mad wondering if all things with good intentions make bad results, or some crazy snowball butterfly effect world of pain, it would just be ridiculous, but I do see how people feel that way from over-thinking, especially after mulling this shit over. I think maybe the communication and understanding between kids and their parents plays a role in this, but some people will never be able to understand and communicate with each other,and offer enough space while at the same time feel like they're doing the right thing and being protective enough. No, you can't expect some sort of communication barrier to get burst through, that revolutionizes the sexuality of our culture, because the main factor is time. Clearly in twenty years, no one is going to be too limited on what they view on the web, they'll do what they want--but they might be trying to figure out what their parents were trying to figure out, how do I keep my eggs safe!?!?? It involves a situation that becomes high pressure for some viewers, and inadvertent viewers. Drawing the line clear enough that no one trips over and into a section of the website they're not ready for keeps your website from being liable, but keeping the content accessible in some way, I guess keeps you progressive? Etching these lines to support the ever morphing sociological spectrum is going to be plain impossible. Not thinking about it isn't going to help though! Computers aint going anywhere, and neither is the human lust to massage itself and excite itself. Eventually more answers will become clear about the role that adult content on a website such as this plays into human sexuality as a whole and the very best way to present it, for now this seems like a pretty good way to present it, doesn't it????

Funnily enough that's how I found it way back when. Don't regret it. I'm married with a wonderful wife. The virus caused a set back but if it wasn't for that I'd be doing perfectly. Kids are explorative, I'm not saying blatantly send things there way but if you leave the proper protections and they say no it's not on you.
