In February we announced a Friday Night Funkin’ Animation Jam. By the March 14th deadline, we received 380 entries. In the time since, the Funkin’ Team wrapped up Week 7, launched a Kickstarter and has been progressing on Week 8, all the while deliberating on their favorites.
Their favorites have now been decided. Here are your winners, with comments by the FNF crew!
🏆 10th Place, $200 - Flyin’ High
This whimsical short offers a unique spin on week 4 and offers a nice trip through the reimagined highs of the groovin track.
🏆 9th Place, $200 - Friday Night Rockin
If this isn’t just classic internet hijinks then I don’t know what is. Genuinely hilarious and revolves around home sweet home; Newgrounds!
🏆 8th Place, $200 - Fresh and Funky
Gorgeous pixel art accompanies stylish composition that breathes life into the world.
🏆 7th Place, $220 - Friday Night Funkin’ - Cardboard Edition
A charming diorama that’ll have you questioning at first whether it’s 3D or real life! The layout is so clever it’s even inspired imitators, that’s how you know they’re onto something.
🏆 6th Place, $300 - Cancer Ward Funking
There isn’t anything we can say about this one that wouldn’t spoil it. We CAN tell you that it’s a funny cartoon that we’ll be quoting for a while to come.
🏆 5th Place, $420 - Blammed
Heavily stylized animation married with great character acting juices the emotion the song itself carries. You can really feel the weight of their words cutting through each other and energizing the whole scene.
🏆 4th Place, $600 - Friday Night Funkin’ LOST OPENING
Lots of personality was jam packed into the frame by frame, and not a single scene goes to waste. On top of that it accompanies an ORIGINAL track that matches the FNF vibe, these guys know what feels cool.

An adorable look into what a date between the titular (lol) characters might be like. Cute interpretations of the characters go through a heart warming scenario with plenty of fun easter eggs too.
🏆 2nd Place, $1,300 - Week 7 Woes
This cartoon harkens back to all things Newgrounds and is sure to tickle any fan pink. Good humor, snappy animation, and all around captured what working on and releasing Week 7 felt like!
🏆 1st Place, $2,500 - Friday Night Funkin’ PS1 Commercial
Aesthetic, humor, animation, charm, this one slam dunks all categories with flying colors. Passion oozes from every shot and gets US jamming to the song every time. The fantastic usage of the characters and their personalities mixed with the fun visualization of the lyrics has made what stands in our hearts as a modern classic.
Runner up 1 - Sneaking on a Friday Afternoon
This one’s got grit, endearing art style, fun jokes, good usage of the characters n lore. We’re definitely excited to see whatever Jokioro cooks up next!
Runner Up 2 - Week 7 Casting
A cute meta cartoon stuffed with NG references and digging deep into our hypothetical process for choosing characters. Plus, that ending just gets me every damn time.
Runner Up 3 - Kawai Fresh
Dynamic shots, bouncy animation, all around stylish w good sexy humor. Just such a good entry with flair we couldn’t not give it a slot!
A Word From the FNF Crew
“Wow, we sure announced these fast, huh? Ha, well hey, we appreciate everyone’s patience! There were a LOTTA mf’n entries and we enjoyed every single second of each one. Making the final choices kept us up for days on end, and we’d fight over placements until we’d just start beating the shit out of each other. But many hospital trips later, we’re proud to finally give the recognition to the AMAZINGLY talented winners, you are all disgustingly skilled!
We also hope this served as a nice entry way into NG for new users, every last one of you has the power to change the face of the earth with what you make and NG is the place to do it! We’re genuinely proud of everyone who’s dedicated enough to finish an entire cartoon and post it, it may sound corny but none of you are walking away empty handed. You got up, made something, and now your doors are open to those around you. So be sure to review as much art as you can and connect with your peers. This goes to the winners as well, you’re all established talents in your own right, be sure to pay that forward and encourage the underdogs and up n comers.
