@milkypossum released her MilkWorld album for free but you can also buy a copy on bandcamp to show your support. Milkypossum is hosting a Spooky Jam, inviting animators to use her song Trick Or Treat in an animation! An update to that post is coming with some prizes, as well.

@3lation has released their Hollow Earth EP as a Newgrounds exclusive and is inviting everyone to use it in their projects! If you enjoy @3lation’s music and appreciate this sort of resource, you can support them on Patreon.

Quick reminder: Newgrounds can't host content with unlicensed commercial music, so it's always best to use royalty-free music in your movies and games if you aren't paying directly to license a song. When browsing songs on Newgrounds, Creative Commons and general permissions info can be found below the song credits. If you don't see anything saying you can use the song in your work, please don't use it unless you have obtained permission from the musician. Also be sure to always credit your musician! Our Advanced Search options include an option to search by permission settings.

On the topic of music, if you made music for a Ludum Dare 49 game, tag it with LudumDare49! It's cool to be able to listen to all of the music that resulted from the jam, in addition to the games.

Ruffle Update

Newgrounds uses Ruffle to preserve classic Flash content in the browser. It was created by @Mike and now has a brilliant community of open source developers working on it. Today’s update introduces support for video, so those Flash movies where people squeezed a video into an SWF now work! Here are some examples:

Tiddlywank cycles through video clips randomly and could never have been properly preserved as a standalone MP4.

You can donate directly to ongoing Ruffle development via Open Collective. NG has been a Diamond Sponsor from the start but we're under the old Github Sponsors system, in case you're looking for us there!

Other News

MADNESS: Project Nexus is now available for purchase on Steam!

Wishlist Dead Estate on Steam and check out the Dead Estate Art Contest!

With all the various events going on, I haven’t formally announced the Halloween Spooktacular this year. As always we’re hoping to see lots of spooky art, animation, games and music. If we took up donations for a prize pool, would any of you be down to chip in for that?

Best of September are up next!

ruffle very inspiring its always awesome to watch it grow and emulate more and more flash player features! One thing I wish (and I know mike has mentioned it before) is having a dev log of sorts similar to Dolphin Emulator that breaks down features and how they got to where they're at. Def a lot of work so I don't blame him for not writing up big posts like that, guess I'll just have to pick his brain personally heheheheh

Oh wow, it's been a busy month on Steam! This looks like lots of fun, like a playable MG parody.

This is AWESOME and a feature of Ruffle I wasn't expecting so soon!

And it works so well! This'll also be good news for Homestar Runner's video content on the site.

The video transition in Nicholas' Weird Adventure 2 works now.

All of Awesome Video Games works too!

I randomly thought about Delusions of Grandeur a few weeks ago and added it to a playlist. Haven’t seen the video in forever, guess it’s time.

Nice Ruffle update!

I need to test the video-based ending to TTAQ:

Perfect timing for Halloween!

Well its animation but I did ask Tom to convert it to ruffle a while ago but the issue then was that ruffle did not work with live action footage stuff well, including stop-motion stuff like NG deathmatch 2 :) I now hope that sites like the waybackmachine start using ruffle as well but I'm not sure how easy it is to impliment it there.

Great to see Ruffle get better and better! Even Dustball & Gel's old live-action skits work:

Response to Ruffle Update and Events 2021-10-07 16:36:07

this is actually huge, i didn't expect this to be taken care of so soon! gonna have to dig up some of those old games with live action cutscenes
