Why do people like Pico (as a franchise)

In around June, 2022. I asked my friends:

What do you think about Pico?

Since I'm a pico fan.

One of them said: I don't really like him. He's boring and just a normal kid with a gun. So I ask you guys, why do you like pico? (As a fan, or community)

I don't even know who pico is still. he's a kid with a gun in a school in a game tom fulp made, right?

I also draw stuff. Here's some of it.

He's iconic and a piece of history. He's celebrated as an early work of our famous, fearless, leader. Was there anything particularly special about Pico? Maybe not by today's standards. But as we celebrate early works of many famous artists (The Party at Kitty and Stud's, anyone?), so too do we celebrate Pico as a vital stepping stone on the path of our centuries-spanning haven from normality.

every character is a testament to the timeframe they were created in.

pico was created when the internet was new and a concept of a kid with a gun shooting people was shocking and novel

these days such a character has actually grown less appealing instead of more appealing, hes kind of been coopted into friday night funkin and exists more in that universe than his own

He may have started as a boring and normal kid, but when he grew up he became an absolute chad!

Jokes and hyperbole aside tho, I find him oddly relatable in a sense and I do have a lot of empathy for him (he's been through a lot ok). I also like how he is a bit of an open book. All in all, he's just a fun character to play with! And it's cool how PA seems to be sort of setting the standard (or at least a very large influence) for what he would be like in his early 20s.

And as a bonus, you can make him either really terrifying or really adorable!

He took on the baddies that were shooting up his school. He took on those Columbine wanna be nerds! He is a Hero! Plus the game was impressive for the time period when it came out.

He's literally the guy who started the hype of this platform throughout the decades. Fulp planted his grain but the fans (Mindchamber for example) grew him up and allowed him to be featured (Pico Day was created for this special case back in 2006).

i will admit, i only discovered newgrounds through fnf (which i still love), so i first knew him as an fnf character, or rather, i only thought of him as a character in fnf. even before i joined newgrounds and played pico’s school for the first time, i did find his character very interesting tho, especially in the fnf universe, since it involves the after-affects and trauma resulting from the events of pico’s school. i mean it in the best way possible when i say that the original pico’s school never really acknowledges how absolutely terrifying and traumatizing it must have been for pico. i know pico’s school was made mostly for shock value, and it wasn’t entirely serious, so it didn’t have to actually touch on those kinds of topics (because that wasn’t what it was going for, i think). i just find the idea of pico being drastically affected by the trauma of what happened interesting

for clarification, i’m not dunking on pico’s school. i actually love pico’s school

i just love how it adds on to his character. like, in the fnf universe, pico has untreated schizophrenia caused by the trauma from the shooting (i forget where this was confirmed, but it’s been confirmed for a long while now). idk i just find it interesting

especially because that isn’t the only point of his character. it’s canon that he and bf are exes (clarification: i don’t ship him and bf, i’m just acknowledging canon), which gives him a reason to protect bf and gf from gf’s parents like he does in canon, because he used to be so close with bf. like, he’s not just the edgy traumatized kid, he’s more than that. which is exactly why i hate when people flanderize him and make him the “uwu traumatized gay man”, he’s so much more interesting when you actually look at his character

anyway, i got severely off topic. i was supposed to be talking about pico as a whole but i ended up rambling about fnf lmao

tl;dr i love pico, both in his games and in fnf, because of how interesting he is and the ways his character can be interpreted
