Picayune Dreams Art Contest!

The first ever public Demo for Picayune Dreams released today as a part of Newgrounds' Pixel Day 2023!

The full game will be coming to Steam later this year as a paid release. You can play a desktop version of the game directly on Steam. And be sure to give them game a Wishlist while you're there. It helps us out A LOT!!

What is Picayune Dreams?

This game has been in the works for 6 months now. It aims to take the bullet heaven gameplay of Vampire Survivors, and the bullet hell bosses of Touhou, but without the ability to camp out a run. This game is very active, and requires the player to always be on their toes. Blend that with freaky Yume Nikki - esque designs, and the breakneck breakcore soundtrack from @Milkypossum, and Picayune Dreams should stand entirely on it's own.

The Contest:

• Create a Picayune Dreams (reference material) themed piece of artwork (any style/medium is fine)
• Submit your work to the Art Portal with the tag picayunedreams by Sunday February 5th 2023
• The handful of piece of fanart already created prior to this event starting will still count. We appreciate you're hard work, and wouldn't want you to miss out!!
• (Optional) Tweet your artwork out with #picayunedreams

 

Other rules:

• Only one entry per person
• No NSFW art
• Submissions after the deadline will NOT be counted

PRIZES:

Myself, alongside @Stepford @andyl4nd and @milkypossum will be judging the entries.

• 5th Place: Steam Key for game
• 4th Place: Steam Key for game + OST
• 3rd Place $50 + Steam Key + OST + 1 Year Subscription to Newgrounds
• 2nd Place: $100 + Steam Key + OST + 1 year NG Sub
• 1st Place: $250 + Steam Key + OST + 1 year NG Sub

Useful info:

• We will announce the winners through the BBS, as well as on Twitter on Wednesday, February 8th, 2023.
• Copies of the game will be distributed to the winners as Steam keys upon release.
• Cash prizes will be paid through PayPal.

It's such a joy to see these characters and concepts being reinterpreted dozens of times over, with every artist finding unique perspectives and styles to bring to their work. It's going to be a tough task to judge all these entries, and somehow pick favorites!

My apologies if it takes a few days longer than originally projected. But I'll be sure to keep everyone posted if it looks like the winners announcement might be delayed

I got back from a weekend away late on Sunday. Then spent the early part of the week handling things for the Steam Next Fest. Sorry all. I've been gushing over the art! But have been too wiped to try and actually judge anything. Why'd you all have to make it so hard?

I'm personally holding up the show here, and I apologize for that! Please bare with us (mostly me) and I apologize if it takes until sometime next week to sort out the winners :/
