Treasure Hunt 2023!

After more than a decade, @SplatterDash and @The-Great-One are reviving the Newgrounds Treasure Hunt!

Millions of creations have been shared on Newgrounds and only a small number ever get featured. A lot of great works fall through the cracks and the goal of the Treasure Hunt is to unearth the biggest hidden gems on the site.

What You Are Hunting For

As a treasure hunter, your goal is to find the best movies, games, art and audio that have never been featured and have not won any trophies, including daily awards or review crew picks.

Entries must have been published between January 1st, 2012 and February 3rd, 2023.

Each participant can suggest a maximum of TWO entries per content type. That means two movies, two games, two audio and two pieces of art.

Please don't suggest your own work.

Deadline

The deadline to enter is Friday, February 17th.

Prizes

The best item in each category will be awarded $188 to the creator and $188 to the person who discovered it.

@SplatterDash and @The-Great-One are organizing a panel of judges who will comb through each category and determine the best hidden gems.

How to Submit Your Entries

Before entering, check to see if anyone already suggested your item, as repeats will be ignored. SplatterDash is maintaining a spreadsheet of entries so you can search that page for your URL. This sheet won't always be 100% up-to-date but will cover most of the entries at any given time.

When ready, post the links to your gems as a reply to this post. Paste each URL on its own line by itself; our forum system will auto-convert that to a rich media link with a thumbnail and info.

Remember, only two links per content type per participant! Let the hunt begin!

Making note for future judging - a decent number of entries will get front paged during the span of this event, so if you see a front page trophy on an entry, note the date on the trophy. It is a valid entry if it wasn't featured until after the start of the event!

2. What's the best way to sort through eligible submissions? (ie. those without FP or award)
3. What happens if a winning author is no longer active (or possibly dead)?

Repeats will be ignored, you need to be the first person in the thread to link to the item.

If you and a friend are sharing credit for finding something, you could split the prize money between each other if you win but that should be decided between the two of you.

It's ok if the author has won for other submissions, although it's especially cool to discover an artist who never got any attention to begin with.

People might want to try browsing using our custom date range feature, to comb through different time periods. A lot of good stuff gets missed when it is released during big events, so searching around the dates of events like Pico Day, Pixel Day, Madness Day, etc. will likely turn up some stuff that missed a shot at the front page / awards.

This is making me think it would be handy for Advanced Search to have a "no awards" search option, so you could actually rank items by score / views while excluding anything with a trophy. That's not gonna happen this year but it would be useful for future treasure hunts!

What happens if a winning author is no longer active (or possibly dead)?

The prize would likely remain pending for a long time in case they show up to claim it. If it can't be claimed, we'll ultimately plan to give the prize to whoever discovered the piece.

Yes As Long As The Submission You Pick Has No Merits

Any Submission That Does Not Have A Trophy Or Awards At All Its Basically Stuff That Fell Under The Radar

They Will Get Credited As Long As Its On New Grounds The Person Who Finds The Submission Is Rewarded
