Did the rating system get stricter?

I recently opened up a new account on Newgrounds having barely touched the site in almost 20 years. I'm actually pretty surprised at how much of the content I used to look at on here is still around considering Flash being shut down back in 2020. One thing that perplexes me though is that a lot of the "Adults Only" content seems a bit... underwhelming. Like, most of the A-rated stuff I find is in fact porn. But then I also come across a few submissions with the A rating where the only thing "adult" about it is that there's a naked person with their bits showing, but the piece is otherwise no more sexual than a pinup. Did Newgrounds get stricter about nudity since the last time I had an account on this place?

Visible genitals must be A-rated. 'Twas always thus, and always thus will be.

If I should ever vanish without a trace, assume until proven otherwise that olskoo banned me due to penis envy.

So then what's the reasoning behind this dressup getting the A rating (NSFW warning)?

She doesn't even have nipples, let alone genitalia. Is it because of the inclusion of bondage attire?

I guess so. I noticed many pre-2003 submissions that used to be rated M got re-rated at A just because of nudity (whether in a sexual context or not). Seriously. There is no evidence that seeing naked bodies in a non-sexual context is harmful to children.

I will admit that sex being considered "A", but violence and gore being considered "M" has always perplexed me, though perhaps I don't understand the whole picture.

I think it has to do with America's skewed priorities when it comes to censorship, where nudity and sexual content is considered more obscene than blood and gore. It's so ingrained in our country, that people will assume porn by default if you bring up a piece of media having adult content.

It's just so weird when I really think about it, cause vanilla sex is literally just two people embracing in romantic, sensual love and gore is just...well, GORE. Hehe

I don't get it either.

On this site the artist chooses the rating first rather than a bot, an algorithm, or a moderator. So things can get a inaccurate.

Especially since there’s only three check boxes to tick ,some adult themes and nudity, a none, or a lot. It’s pretty vague to be honest. And you can’t really tell what you’ll get until it goes through.

iu_973599_11413315.png

That’s the point of the flag button. And the improper rating option.

You might have a point there. I mean if I think of an example, Let's say if crinkles did madness combat 12 it would probably have a lot of gore and some sexual jokes/references there that it wouldn't be surprised if it got the A. rating. I feel like the company that owns the site along with tom Are becoming more over protective due to the fact that little kids under the age of 13 constantly keep joining the site even though it's says in the rules that that is illegal and is forbidden

There’s two Krinkels Madness movies released in 2022 and they’re both M rated.

While I can’t access the dress-up game linked earlier, it’s from 2016.

I feel like the OP is fishing for like-minded replies. I suspect the adult-rated “pin-ups” are actually images that fill-up the thumbnail with balloon-sized breasts, which stick out like a sore thumb on the overall portal gallery.

Western sensibilities has always been like that where we're happy seeing blood and gore but cringe at an exposed vagina or a penis. In Japan. Its sort of the opposite where you can be as sexual as you wish but will draw the line when it comes of exposed neck stumps and gore. The amount of censorship is what almost put me off enjoying jojo part 3 and completely turned me off Tokyo ghouls

I mentioned that in topic below.

I've got some of my works from 2022 re-rated.

I've been downgraded into "undiscovered".

All without warning or notice.

My "rating misjudgement" were applied to me retroactively.

Keep in mind that the rating is chosen by the actual creators, so if they themselves consider it adult content, then that's probably their intention for it, so yeah it should be A-rated.

Do you not have the Newgrounds viewer? Also, the pin-ups I'm talking about are nothing THAT gratuitous.

If you think the rating can be softened, feel free to flag it. Note there’s more issues to the potential audience with an image being underrated than excessively overrated.

Depends. The adult rating only ever happens whilst selecting "lots of" in the nudity field. So if it was "some" it would be mature instead. Atleast that tells me there are cases where there is visible genitalia on a pic with a rating of M instead of A. Tho it's never going to be E or T.

Ok boomer.

Visible genitalia require the nudity setting to be at "lots" in order to force the A rating. If you happen upon an artist that doesn't get this, by all means, upgrade your whistle.

Does that mean a drawing of Michelangelo's David that has his dong on full display needs to have an A rating?

What's so rhetorical about me asking if you have the software that lets you view earlier NG content? Do you even know what that word means?

… Regarding “pin-ups”, you don’t need a viewer for looking at earlier art portal content.

It’s just a picture.

You’ve been given your response, but you’re shifting topic. Best of luck scouting Michaelangelo.
