A few years ago, Between the Ashes released to high praise. It is a game for Freespace Open, a space-sim shooter game engine. The game was fully voice acted upon release. Playlist of trailers for the original game. A full Let's Play of the game.
Here is the most recent trailer for the sequel that we're working on getting voice acted right now.
I am now finishing development on the sequel and am casting all remaining characters. There's a few larger roles (150+ lines), several mid-size roles (30-80 lines), and quite a few small roles (1-10 lines). If you have range, we'd love for you to audition for multiple roles, especially the smaller ones.
Auditions open until Aug 31. Send submissions to mjn.mixael@gmail.com. You can also reach me on Discord. MjnMixael#4144
-----Characters Below-----
Below you'll find the character name, gender, a short summary, then a selection of lines each with some character-specific traits on display.
Lt. Commander Radomir “Skunk” Petoph (he/him) - 140 lines
A former Intelligence pilot. Skunk has a generally resigned attitude, a dark sense of humor, and considerable empathy for his newbie wingmates. His actions in the Hades Rebellion earned him the (sometimes begrudging) respect of many Vasudans, and the feeling is mutual. Skunk is very aware of how his past as an intel spook colors his perceptions today, and is deeply distrustful of anything associated with his own past.
"I've hit some turbulence. Can someone sweep my six?"
"Mind the furball, commander!"
"Yes, ensign, I'm afraid so. If we go after them, their allies will seek retribution. We'd just be perpetuating the cycle."
"Well... if you apply a Kashiwabara transformation in a static subspace field, you might get... no, probably not."
"Harewood, Beta lead. I've got an intermittent contact at seven high. Request bogey dope."
Ensign Kanna “Rosemary” Kumagai (she/her) - 120 lines
Of the 508th's pilots, Rosemary is easily the most respectable. The youngest child of a family of artists and businesspeople, Rosemary's decision to enter the Navy definitely raised some eyebrows among her social peers. She's an adherent of a relatively young religious group, the Children of Umbra, predicated on the veneration of space itself as a protective force. Where her family tends to give lip service to the faith because it's fashionable, Rosemary feels a real calling to it, and couldn't justify playing high society while there's so much out in the galaxy that needs to be done. Well-spoken, clever, and openly devout, Rosemary's something of the 508th's moral center.
"Check your formation, commander!"
"Target down! Logging coordinates for SAR."
"Well, it wasn't always that way. It might not look it now, but Ross 128 was a growing civic center before the Shivans. All that debris had to come from somewhere, didn't it?"
"Break up the GTA and suddenly the Hammer has one less strong opposing force. Not a bad play from their perspective."
"Pardon me for intruding... I'm reading many intermittent contacts and one Tyr-class fighter out of formation. Is that one of yours?"
Admiral Shirazi(she/her) - 30 lines
Admiral Shirazi is a highly experienced officer of the Galactic Terran Alliance. She commands the Destroyer Malendroke. She's a straight shooter and loyal to the people she protects above all. She doesn't accept any bullshit.
"This is Admiral Shirazi, GTD Malendroke. I have your telemetry, pilots. I assume you were briefed on the state of the Adhara garrison."
"We'll support you from up here as best we can. The clock's ticking. Get moving!"
"Belay that! 508th, your oath is to the GTA, not Adhara. We need to debrief you ASAP."
"Strike force, Malendroke Actual. I've reviewed your data dump about the Hammer threat a dozen times over. I appreciate the tactical precis, but now that the immediate crisis is over, I would like some strategic information. Where did that ship come from?"
Amira Ekul (they/them) - 30 lines
Amira leads an independant ultrasurvivalist faction called the Second Dawn Society. They expect the return of an unstoppable alien force and are prepared to survive them by habitating ultra deep space. They manage their own security forces, all under Amira's command. Amira is a badass and is protective of her people. They are highly respected and the SDS owes much of its existence to them. We want Amira's voice to be gender indistinct.
"Alliance forces, my name is Amira Ekul. My command staff is being held on the Izanami. We've kicked the Zods out of engineering - seal that hatch, dammit! - but they just keep coming. Our survival is in your hands."
"Hey. Hey! Ibrahim, stay with me! The good guys are here. Whatever you did to lock out the bridge controls, I need you to undo it."
"Negative, Tsega. Holly stole my station. I've got a boat full of armor, and I am going to ram it down their throat."
"Set flak for torpedo intercept! Ibrahim, rotate the artillery platforms, now!"
Admiral McPherson (he/him) - 20 lines
Admiral McPherson is a highly decorated office of the Galactic Terran Alliance and commands the Destroyer Delacroix. He has been in military service his entire life and doesn't know a world without the GTA. Everything he does is colored by his blind faith in that faction.
"This is Admiral McPherson of the Delacroix. Malendroke, torpedos are loaded. Where's our target?"
"My God. Ops, bring up sensor and comm interception. I want to know if a gnat farts where we don't expect it!"
"Belay that! 508th, your oath is to the GTA, not Adhara. We need to debrief you ASAP."
Vade (he/him) - 20 lines
Vade is the scientist behind the new Beam Weapons abord the prototype ships. He's an eccentric and brilliant individual. Much of his dialog has been inspired by Adam Savage of Mythbusters fame.
"Vade here. That Imhotep's giving off all kinds of emissions, but if they think a little electronics noise is going to scare us into aborting... Well, we'll just have to put on a good show!"
"Alright! For the first test, we're going to check out the beam's attenuation - how it loses coherence the further out it goes. We're going to line up some Amazons and see how much energy the beam loses poking holes in them."
"Well, the test targets are all lined up! Stand clear, and get ready for some fireworks! Captain?"
"Woohoohoo! Look at that! Just look at that! Oh, that is a thing of beauty! EM data collected and logged. What a shot!"
Various Pilots, Officers, Civilian Characters (any gender) - 1-10 lines depending
The remaining roles are all smaller roles and vary between 1 line and upwards of 10 or so. There are pilots, ship officers, civilian characters, and a few other types not really covered in the characters above. Below is a random set of lines if you'd like to audition for one of these. Feel free to use multiple voices if you have range; you can fill multiple roles!
"Replacement parts, mostly... transmitting manifest now. Tell the hangar crew we've got a... high-viscosity fluid gasket for the... organic material recombination system in the mess hall."
"Psi wing has cleared the bay. Reporting ready for jump."
"Julius, this is the home stretch. How long til we get to Fereydun?"
"Gregor, you and your escorts are cleared to approach. Our medical staff are ready for your arrival. On behalf of everyone aboard, thank you."
"Pilots, this is Gabriel Bunnag, chief of station operations. I am so glad to see you out there. The crew was getting pretty anxious after those gas cans blew."
"Theta wing, focus turrets on the gunboats. I want every crate! Depart as soon as your clamps are locked."
"Delacroix, the area is secure and fuel levels are joker. We're bugging out."
"This is Geisha! We launched from Vanderberg. The whole site's overrun with drones!"
"When you pick up stock that valuable in my neighborhood, you've gotta pay up. One way or another..."
"That's it! I'm boarding the last transport. The station is clear!"
