Posting Non-Animation Videos (Skateboarding Vids) To Newgrounds

I've been a part of newgrounds for a long time, long enough that its really sort of driven how I have creatively done things over the years. Thing is, I'm not planning on storyboarding a cartoon or writing a movie, so the general characteristics of the site are more entertaining for me, rather than being a part of the actual community.

Now I don't want to come off as some sport dick who was too good to do anything with a pencil. I have been learning some things with animation and even have a drawing tablet, but tbh I just can't really contribute in that way. I could post the landscapes I draw but.... eh, I don't want my stuff stolen and used in some mobile game somewhere.

However, theres things people create that don't have to be a flapping muppet on a white wall screaming about batman's nipples, and in fact, many of those producing such content want somewhere new to post it.

Where I have something like reddit or other sites that are really just kinda shitty to talk about stuff like computers or advertising gimmicks or politics, I really have no where to oust my real creativity. Everywhere is just a risk factor demanding money from me.

The interest is in crafting a good video, having a good image on a old ass camera from my attic, and really holding on to the beauty of skating, and teaching people how to use old tech to similarly create stuff out of thin air, pretty much because they have an interest. Using a Mavica CD cam to get a real analogue image with snappy audio.... Inspiring others to skate, or to go out and grab "ewaste" and create something cool. I see too many benefits, but I rly have no where to go, ultimately.

Is there any sort of chance this could happen? You tube is actually trash, Vimeo is a literal who, TikTok.... just no, where do I even post 3 to 4 minute videos and not have it assgrabbed?

Even just skateboard videos could bring a whole new crowd to the site.

Just a thought.

As an added thing, because storage and bandwidth, I will never post anything over 480p. Just uh, just a fun "challenge" to have in mind

I'd say the closest thing on the idea list is that if we ever allow short-form video in blogs as a Supporter feature, you could make blog posts with videos. Not sure if / when that would happen, the bigger priority is allowing short videos in the Art Portal, for moving pieces / turnaround videos / speedpaints.

I see skateboarding as art, just as much as figuring out a claymation. A posted video would be 3-4 minutes, mostly skating a line, maybe a trick breakdown at the end. Recorded on a VX1000 similar camera, at least, as planned.

Wherever it'd fit really. I think short form, nonautismo, videos would be.... well, refreshing to say the least.

Actually you guys kinda already have what I'm talking about, its just the only reason its been accepted was an animated segment.

Our Movies portal is for animations. You could share your skateboard video in a blog post as an embedded YouTube video, if you would like. I would be interested in seeing it!

If you are looking for somewhere to host videos that is not YouTube, or Vimeo, or TikTok...

I have really wanted to find a YouTube alternative too, but I haven't found any good ones. There are alternatives like Rumble, LBRY/Odysee, PeerTube, and BitChute. Unfortunately it seems the fate of all these YouTube alternatives is that they all inevitably become overrun by the alt-right, conspiracy theorists, and crypto

grifters, who are drawn to those platforms for their lack of censorship.

There is the Internet Archive's Community Videos section, if you are looking for something non-commercial. But keep in mind those videos are free-to-download by anyone. If you are so concerned about content theft, then you might not want to post it there.

(Though if someone really wanted to steal your stuff, there is not anywhere on the internet you could post it and truly be safe from that. People can make a copy of anything you post online, on any website)

Why not try something like radical? which tracks bodies into cg. skin your skateboard video into animation?

My stop motion is on the site and I do empathize/have actually spoken at length about animation as a physical skill like that of skateboarding or taichi BUT i clearly demarcate an end result. Live action video is live action video.

With how easy mocap is becoming I think you can make some awesome video in congress with an amazing skill like skateboarding.

i.e. I, as a professional animator, would have to imagine realistic skateboarding. Conceiving every foot movement whole cloth. Whereas it just lives in you. You could record it on mocap and make something great. Something completely on theme with this site.

*edit: radical is a company. you can upload footage to their site. i realized it may sound like i am saying be radical or even worse telling you to do radical skateboard tricks

Oh no I took it as, like, political radical, something completely just off the wall. Which, I'll be honest, if I did an end vid segment breaking down tricks with an animated element, showing like, this is a trey flip, you push like this, kick like this, board does this, stomp here, would that help? My point is just other creative things to do on the site in general.

Honestly I didn't even think about mocap that'd be the dopest thing to do a kickflip with little white balls on my board.

That is literally part of what I mean. I don't mean flapping muppet nickelodeon vomit, I mean literally whatever you would want to create using a motion picture medium.

Look up Solanine on youtube. I would love to see them post here that would be amazing. They'd actually have more interaction.

My point is I want to post a different form of creative medium on a platform that won't automatcally take advantage of me. Post linking even a non-viewed YT vid ATP basically leads to it being deleted. They're detonating old channels soon, and then putting like a year or like 6 month wait-to-delete on everything at the end of the year.

I wouldn't expect NG to store gigabyte sized videos by any means, thats why I say put res limits and even a size limit on it. Make the art a challenge. Make it in a way that visually matches the rest of the site, etc. Theres thought to this, I don't want flapping nickelodeon muppet vomit on here by any means.

Dood let me grab the link to radical. so long as you do 30 seconds at a time its free. Maybe even make a jam and people would mocap you here

This is the sort of shit I'd want a video portal for. Literally this. Like, I find it funny, you were against it at first and now look XDDD

haha i mean if anything my suggestion was to think of how to not have a video portal and do it in animation, but whatever interpretation makes us better buddies i am for it. same team same team

Eh, I more see it as bridging gaps

lol on the reaction to my pun. a skateboard jam would be cool though find some other skaters on here

I podcast, make documentaries, cartoons, games and art. I also hate lawns. Love weasels. Am neutral on Snow Cones. I feel nothing about snow cones. Sometimes they are nice.

That was why I suggested Internet Archive Community Videos. Unlike YouTube they won't delete your videos because they're not profitable. They won't put automatic ads on your content so they can profit off your creative works. It's the opposite, this videos on IA are hosted for the purpose of preservation and free sharing with the community.

They also allow you to put a Creative Commons license on your video. The most restrictive CC license, "CC-BY-NC-ND", may appeal to you. It allows reusers to copy and distribute the material in any medium or format in unadapted form only, for noncommercial purposes only, and only so long as attribution is given to the creator. (But you are not required to choose a CC license to upload your videos on IA. It's just recommended)

I just found this

You know what would be really cool is being able to start with a video and go into a 3D interactive thing
