This doesn't necessarily pertain to just Video Games, but since I think this doesn't fit with the other forms, I'm just going to put this here.
Final Battles: They are the culmination of the protagonist's journey coming to an end and using what they've learned along the way to defeat the overarching antagonist of the game/story. Most of the time these are one of the main highlights to a story/game and end up being one of the most notable moments in them. There are many good reasons to love final battles, such as the difficulty in playing them, the buildup, the effort (if there is any) to make it as amazing as possible, among many other reasons.
Back when me and my friend were playing Pokémon Scarlet & Violet (it was one of the only games we could play together at the time) and we were about to fight the elite four, I brought up a question that would both lead us indecisive: What's better for a final battle, taking place during the day or at night? Looking back and thinking about it more I realize that the setting of which a final battle takes place in is one of the backbones for making them as good as they are.
Take Smash Bros'. World of Light as an example: Not only does the background look beautiful, but it also reflects the war between Galeem and Dharkon's control over the Smash world. The background for the overall entire fight is split between a light heavenly place, and a hellish dark place, with either side taking over completely if the opposite character is defeated (this is even reflected with the gameplay for these bosses). This is even more evident when fighting all the previous boss spirits before fighting the main 2 puppet masters behind it all. The more light bosses that are defeated, the more darker the background becomes and vice versa.
Personally my ideal final battle would be in the middle of the rain where a dark blue/purple overtakes the sky, leaving up to ambiguity if it's day or night. This is mostly due to my adoration of rainy environments and how poetic it would be if the battle ends as soon as the rain does.
What's your ideal setting for a final battle? It can be something with long and deep detail, or something simple like the weather. If you don't have one, then list one of your favorite final battle settings from something you like.
