ready... set... SKETCH!
We're bringing back the Sketch Collab for another year, again, or so help us God! Hosting a really big collab last year changes a man or two.
What's the Sketch Collab? Well, it used to be about making a short animation showing what it would look like if your doodles started moving, but these days you can just animate anything for the collab, as long as it follows the rules below! If you're having trouble looking for ideas, consider watching the past Sketch Collabs.
MEET THE COLLAB HOSTS!
@midgetsausage really agreed to host this year's collab despite being under heavy academic workload! Why would he do that? Because he thought it'd be funny if he did exactly that.
@Ozone is, once again, in the middle of something (this time he's moving out of the country, evading authorities) while being a host of a Sketch Collab for the third time in a row! Why would he do that? We will absolutely never know.
Collab Requirements
(They're kind of the same as last time!)
1) As the name implies, this is the Sketch Collab.
What we're looking for are rough animation submissions/animation tests/sketch animation. That means you do not over clean your work.
This is not the clean up animation collab; if you want to tighten up your drawings to be more legible for viewing, that's fine, but please don't focus your energy on making something clean, focus more on the animation side of things. That's what sketches are for after all; bringing out an idea that gets refined later.
2) The animation must be 5-10 seconds long.
Keep in mind the pacing of the video! Longer submissions tend to drag out the amount of time the video runs! If you want to go longer, say, 15 or 20 seconds, please ask us very nicely, but we really highly suggest cutting that stuff down to 5-10 seconds.
3) Try to keep it a Teen (T) rating on NG.
4) No tweening and no tracing/rotoscoping.
The "no tweening" rule has been with the Sketch Collabs since the very very beginning. We view it as a crutch and we want people to actually draw and animate with their stuff without the animation program interpolating (i.e. inbetweening) things.
We understand the use of tracing for study but please no tracing animation for this collab. If you're doing a study of an animation that's fine, but if we find that you're one to one tracing another animation/video/reference your gonna get your submission blammed from the collab.
5.) Sound effects are somewhat allowed
Keyword: somewhat. We're going to be adding music to the overall collab, so don't bombard your entry with dozens of sound effects, keep it minimal.
6.) Do not write down your name anywhere (No personal watermarks)!
I've received a handful of entries with author watermarks on them, please do not do that! We'll be putting your names on the bottom corner much like last year's and last-last year's Sketch Collab.
This also includes the Sketch Collab watermark below, which is for WHEN YOU POST YOUR ENTRY PUBLICLY.
For Flipaclip users, yes, the watermark is a pain. Do not worry about having it, we've had Flipaclip submissions last year. We can only advise you to NOT animate over where the Flipaclip watermark is probably gonna be placed. It's tedious, yes, but sadly that must be done.
VIDEO SPECS:
16:9 resolution, must be AT THE VERY LEAST 1280x720.
Any video filetype that VLC Media Player can read is fine.
White background, no color (!!!!!)
We prefer you wait for the collab to come out before posting your entry publicly.
But if you really want to NOW, please include the Sketch Collab 2023 watermark/endcard!!!
(^^^ do not actually include the above watermark/end card in the entry you're submitting in the form ^^^)
Ready to submit an entry?
Submit it in the Google Form below!
