DAWs for Chromebook 2023-10-04 03:44:44

So I don't have the money to invest in a true PC setup or even laptop and I was wondering if there are any DAWs I can use on a Linux compatible Chromebook. Preferably free. I'm wanting to create some noise/power electronics/industrial if that helps :)

Thanks!

LMMS is designed for Linux and works like earlier versions of FL Studio, with some differences.

I'm not sure how Linux compatible Bitwig and MuLab are, but these are two suggestions that come to mind.

LMMS does work for Linux, but is apparently not compatable with my computer :/

Bitwig and MuLab womn't work on mine.

Thanks for the suggestions tho!

Hello indvstrial,

Here are two DAWs available, but not exclusive to Linux.

The first one is SunVox by Alexander Rolotov, a free modular synth that is also a DAW. There is also another DAW I found, titled Ardour by Paul Davis and others (1 USD or more). Keep in mind that unlike most other DAWs, the latter does not recommend using VST2 format plugins. Everything else, however, works perfectly as intended.

Hope this helps,

Elijah

I could not edit the previous post, but you can also use ossia score, a free DAW. Like Sunvox, this DAW also has a modular workflow.

Are you actually running Linux as your os, or are you running ChromeOS (android)?

Heya, since Chromebooks run ChromeOS, you're going to be limited to running either whatever's browser-capable, or android apps if you're sticking to defaults.

There are still good options though in that space! (Albeit with some limitation such as no 3rd party plugin support). Here's some to consider which should run on ChromeOS by default:

  • FL Studio Mobile
  • Cubasis 3
  • Caustic 3
  • n-Track Studio

If you're turning Linux support on (via the Linux Desktop Enviroment setting), you'll be able to potentially get any of these working aswell: (results/support may vary)

  • REAPER
  • Ardour
  • Tracktion Waveform Free 12
