September Thoughts

Thank you everyone who participated in September! There was a lot of nostalgia this month, between Salad Fingers, Badger, Madness and a new Elephant game. 

We embarked on a new journey as well, with the Art Portal update introducing all sorts of comics and art collabs that weren’t previously possible. I love that Newgrounds can celebrate such an expansive history while taking ongoing steps into the future.

If all goes as planned, expect some short downtime early Wednesday as we roll out the next phase of the Playlist system, including a migration of the old collections and series pages. If you’ve been uploading an episodic series of movies or comics, now would be a good time to put them in a playlist, which will soon be able to serve as an official series page. If your movies already have an official series page in the old system, you will soon be taking ownership of that, so no need to make another one. If you're a musician who has released an album here, you'll soon be able to turn that playlist into an official album page as well.

@KittyhawkMontrose is hosting The Sweet Sixteen Comic Contest, where the theme is to create a 16 page comic. There is $1k in prizes and the deadline is December 11th.

Had a bit more free time this month so I made a short n' sweet highlight video for the public! If you're a game dev or want more, the full review is over here.

Congratulations to all the winners, and all the great game devs that made all sorts of crazy good games this month!

Madness Day was especially a treasure trove of games with Madness SEVERED (my number one for the month) and Madness Fuelled by Hotdogs (my secret number one in my heart). Surprised that they didn't snatch the top prize easily, but that's why I'm here to shed some light on underrated games!

Another genre we got a lot of this month was RPGs: typically I, perhaps unfairly, see RPG Maker games in a lesser light since they can be so cookie-cutter at times, but BLEPP Quest, BURNOUTS Tower of Power and BLIMBO all really surprised me with how charming, goofy, and creative their worlds were!

For reference, only the M and A filters were on when I screenshotted that.

And here's what it looks like with only the A filter on. Nothing. What gives? The filter was explicitly on.
