Hey there. I find myself making loads of doodles that aren't polished enough to be included in the art portal and, now stop me if I'm crazy, but i think a lot of people are in the same boat. So drop a few doodles in here if you got em. Here are some of mine.

Ooh, good timing to stumble on this thread, wanted a place to dump this on. Been fiddling around with some homebrew stuff, on the flashcard for my old DS-Lite. Found this quite amazing little painting app (Colors), that has a legit color-wheel and one heck of a good photo-shop-like brush tool. And what I never expected that old DS to be able to do, is that it actually supports pressure sensitivity. It also saves a timelapse of your entire work (wich you can pause at any time, and go back to draw at that point in time again, instead of an undo feature, wich you only have 1 step of).

And it lets you export the painting in a PNG at suprisingly high resolutions.

I doodled some Pokemon with it, while experimenting with the brush and it's settings, trying to get some lighting and shading going on, after randomly starting out, drawing a gradient background and some glowy white orb in the middle.

By no means, impressive for a digital painting, but think it's pretty amazing to be able to make this, just on an old DS-Lite. (funnily enough, a way newer 2DS-XL's touchscreen does not support the pressure sensitivity).

And just adding a little GIF of me trying to demonstrate the pen-pressure (varying some light and hard presses) and a picture of how the tools look. Just because I think it's neat to show:

iu_1102396_2438174.gif

iu_1102395_2438174.webp

Not a lot of tools, as you can see.

No selecting things, no copy-pasting or paint-bucket.

Just one brush tool, hard, soft and sprinkle settings, with pointy/soft blury/solid settings. And size/opacity sliders on the right.

Just one tool, but a suprisingly good one. And very fun to use. Be feeling like using an ini-mini bootleg cintique tablet.

My DS Lite is serving as alarm clock as it is only and THE only alarm clock to this date which is capable to waking me up. has two games loaded to it ever since like 2008, working perfectly fine - good as new. Love this widget. Never realized it could be used for doodling like this, hehehe.

Yo that's so pro! Using the more realistic pressure-sensitivity features and ultra-high resollution that RL uses!! ':O

woahh i had no clue the ds lite had a painting program. Ive seen Pokemon Art Academy for the 3ds but thats pretty much the only art program ive seen for nintendo hand helds.

Yeah, homebrow stuff kinda stays under the radar of the general audiences. Most of it is also just some super simple games, or applications that barely work, or just have a really clunky interface, made by hobby programmers on the side. But there's a small handfull of quite amazing stuff inbetween.

But on the plus side, of it being unofficial software, it runs off an SD-card inside of a DS cartridge, so whatever you make on it, you can easily copy over to a phone or computer and edit or post it from there.

Its a quite old app too, made back in 2009. I rlly feel stupid for having missed it back then. But like to see it gaining a bit of popularity. As its quite a cheap and entry-level way of getting into digital arting around.

Wow, that second one, with the giant smile, looks like a fascinating, yet bizare combination of Elmo, with a Wallice & Grommit type of face, dressed up as an old lady.

You can always still upload them if you want! There is an option to opt out art from being in the portal but still uploaded!

Reading this gives you infinite luck. You'e welcome.
