Been thinking of posting art elsewhere as well, like Instagram.
Wot places do y'all personally find worth posting at? Is Deviantart still a cool place? :))

I still use Instagram, albeit infrequently. I find it difficult to gain any sort of footing on that platform given how the algorithm on there works. These forums are honestly the only place where I post casually now.
I also tried using DeviantArt, although I never really got into it. From what I've heard the management for the site is sort of tacky-- I could be wrong, though.
Newgrounds is all I post in.
My sister keeps nagging me about posting on Tumblr, but ehhhhhh.
I posted one piece of art in a Kirby subreddit.
I did use DeviantArt a small bit around five years ago.
And I posted very below amateur art on Facebook in the early 2015s.
Never used Twitter or Tumblr, and I don't ever plan too.
Take it with a grain of salt, I am slower than a snail.
I use Insta and Twitter (yeah yeah I know) the stuff I post on Insta is a combination of the posts I do here and on twitter. Twitter is a shithow but a good portion of people like my fanart/fandom related stuff over there. Insta is probably my least favorite site to use since the algorithm is really shitty, but I still post there since there's still some people that interact with my stuff over there.
Been thinking of giving tumblr a shot but I'm not sure. Overall I post on 3 different platforms, and each site sees different types of art based on the audience
Mostly Twitter and Tumblr, and sometimes Instagram and Reddit
I don't really post on other sites anymore:
Idk sometimes it feels like a case of "hit or miss."
I poast on tumblr, reddit (and technically, toyhouse, even though it's meant to be character storage website not art website)
and maybe steam as well.
I may not be the brightest in the box full of light-bulbs, but that doesn't mean I can't light the way in this dark world.
(you can call me wilson or mawi if you want, I'm also the one who made skibidi club.)
TOYHOUSE • TUMBLR • REDDIT • ART THREAD
Twitter - I'm a nobody there, sometimes i've been lucky, with, idk, 100 or less likes, but the other times it's just silence.
Instagram - I used to, but i hate it. It's a chore to post something there. It's been eating dust since years ago.
DeviantArt - I used to, but yeah, still nothing, later by the all updates made me lose interest (Plus my cringe era and cringe drawings, soooo) and i left.
Yeah, i guess... I have been lucky here. That's cool. Yeah, i think i belong here.
I only post my art here, everywhere else is lame.
I feel like the particular kind of art I do fits this site more than any other social media, and even though there’s less people here I feel I’d get way less engagement on other places like Twitter because of the algorithms and stuff.
Chillin' and grillin'
My main post-site is Tumblr because it is where I find easily people, who like same things as I do, and then occasionally here.
Potentially? Deviantart (with groups), Bluesky, Twitter (though you're at the mercy w/e they do with their algo), Pixiv. I tried Mastodon but idk, seems not worth.
I externally post in my Twitter account, but it has even smaller audience and full of "fembots".
I started off from Instagram. My account there is over 5 years old. I moved here because of how awful and unfair the algorithm is for artists and how many art reposters/stealers there are. The image compression and multi image support there are truly awful but the art community is from the better side.
I do still post there but yet again I realize while writing this that I forgot to post my newest art there.
So in short I think the platform is pretty horrible, community is ok and it is still better than most other modern social media platforms.
I used to post on other places but the community just wasn't there. Devaintart has sold out to AI bros, sheezyart is a shell of its former self (revived and taken over by horny eddsworld fan characters). Really all there is is twitter and newgrounds for me
I've tried to hang around FurAffinity, Twitter, BlueSky, and Itaku before joining and rediscovering Newgrounds .. but I feel like I'm both spread out so thin and not really "growing" or being noticed in a way that really motivates me being on so many platforms.
I think so far, I like how Newgrounds seems to organize everything and I might be more active posting here and FurAffinity in general .. but I can't imagine Twitter or BlueSky working out with the way engagement seems on both of them (on top of me just not knowing how to work them anyways).
kind of an aside, but have any of those "alternative deviantart" sites ever taken off? stuff like artfol, inkblot, buzzly, etc. seems like it attracts a couple thirteen year olds and then dies every time. probably lack of engagement like people have stated above, i guess i wouldn't mind a quieter site if there was at least more focus on discussion and or making friends with other artists but they seem to lack that too.
I use Deviantart, Pixiv, and Tumblr. I do post on Twitter and Reddit but that's only for advertisement for the actual art sites I post to.
Oh boy! Coming from someone who’s dabbled in a little bit of everything and left a couple sites (or kept distance from them) for different reasons, here’s been my experience with some of the most popular sites for sharing artwork.
~
DeviantArt - I left DA years ago. The reason why is it isn’t nearly as good as it used to be back in 2019 and earlier. I was there for the “eclipse apocalypse” or whatever you’d call it, when DA completely changed the classic and iconic look of their website for something minimalistic, modern, and lacking in any originality or character. I left at that point because nothing felt the same anymore, but at the end of the day, it’s all just aesthetics and a lot of people don’t care about that stuff. I did, but that’s my own problem because I grew up with the original DA and I loved it. The main thing that kept me away from DA, however, was the increasing greed. They began removing features that were previously free and locking them behind a paywall, and asking for more money for their subscriptions to access these features. After they started doing that, it cemented my decision and I knew I wasn’t going back. The corporate greed of DA has gotten very out of hand. When I used to use DA though, I’d say my art got an average level of exposure? Not a lot, but some.
Instagram - I left Instagram for personal reasons, but honestly, it’s a fine site and I’ve considered making a return to it. My art always got really good exposure there, and I was consistently growing as an artist through posting there. It’s definitely the site where my art has gotten the most exposure (alongside YouTube previously) and I gained the most followers. The main cons of IG is that it absolutely eats the quality of your art and you’re somewhat limited to a specific resolution on your art because every post on IG is square-shaped. That always really bothered me, especially on a website that’s literally made for sharing images and most images aren’t completely square, but cropping art isn’t that big of a deal, it can just be kind of an eyesore depending on the piece. Overall, I still recommend Instagram!
Tumblr - Tumblr is one of my favorite sites in all honesty. I only started using it in recent years after it lost popularity due to the ban on NSFW, but I’ve still really enjoyed it. I’d say the biggest thing about Tumblr is it favors fanart a LOT. If you don’t make a lot of fanart, you might struggle to get exposure (at least that’s been my limited experience so far). A drawing of Garfield and Hello Kitty I made got over 150+ notes, but most of my other art (not fanart) has gotten around 10 notes per piece, more or less. That’s quite a massive difference.
Reddit - I feel like Reddit is the same as Tumblr in that if you make fanart, you will likely flourish, but if you don’t, you won’t get much exposure at all unless you are a really REALLY good artist. That same Garfield and Hello Kitty drawing I mentioned earlier got around 800~ upvotes on r/garfield and 150~ upvotes on r/sanrio. Other art I’ve made (not fanart) I posted to subreddits like r/drawing and r/digitalart and I don’t think I even broke 10 upvotes IIRC. I don’t think Reddit is the best place to share art in general though if I’m being honest, just because of the way their algorithm works. What’s popular will be seen for a few days and then be forgotten about forever, and what isn’t won’t really be seen at all. That hasn’t been my experience with other sites, such as Tumblr, where my art continues to receive attention even after the first week (or sometimes month) it’s been up, regardless of how popular it is. I think, with Reddit, it’s also just a matter of… the more popular the subreddit is, the harder it will be.

I’ve personally never used X formerly known as Twitter before. The drama that I’ve come to associate with that site has kept me away from it for years and I’ve never touched it with a 10-foot pole so that’s a question for someone else, LOLZ. But I might be entirely wrong about that and it might be a great place to share art! I wouldn’t know since I’ve never tried.
Apart from these, I’ve tried FurAffinity as well but didn’t bring it up because it’s mostly a furry website. I also didn’t talk about YouTube since it’s just videos (speedpaints and animations in my case). I also didn’t mention Chicken Smoothie because it’s for a very specific crowd and I imagine most people wouldn’t be interested in it (sadly). If anyone would like me to go into detail about my experience on those websites, I can! In short: I like them all!
~
If anyone wants to correct me on anything I’ve said in this post or argue a different experience with a certain website, please do! I know a lot of other people have had a much different experience (with Instagram specifically) than I have, and possibly other sites as well, especially since my experiences are quite limited. I don’t draw as much as I should and I share what I do even less… I’m also not the most skilled artist. Keep those facts in mind and take everything I say with a grain of salt! I hope this helped somebody nonetheless!
Sorry if this post was boring to read or anything, I absolutely love writing and I like to go into extensive detail as I’m sure you’ve noticed by this point, LMAO.
Fuck the cynicism, let the colors fly!
Don’t care you think it’s cringe, because it’s not your life!

Instagram has changed a lot recently and not only they removed 'newest' under tags, there is absolutely no way to gain visibility unless you do reels, post every day, and when you use same tag twice in row you get shadow banned (that was fun discovery after inktober), you also get warnings for 'not being Disney and family friendly' - which for IG is something very basic and very weird, not even google is so obnoxious and Google is bad.
Also in 2023 there is new IG change, where your own followers do not see your posts even when switching to 'following'.
If you want to post videos and get visibility - you should go tik Tok which despite hate in US based English speaking media would allow you to get visibility if you unknown. Reels IG vs. clips in tik tok vs shorts YT, you should pick Tik Tok 1st and instagram last.
Then there's thing that instagram really-really discourages people from posting still images - i.e. art. You get more visibility and picked up by image search of search engines form sites like Tumblr, X etc - allowing better growth.
Also tumblr did add algorithm based feed for those, who prefer it without removing old ones - and brought back adult themes (NOT porn!) , which Instagram would ban you for. Making it turn also better option over IG.
Also since November great deal of users in EU would swap to different platform from Instagram.
Mastodon is the only other platform I don't hate, but I'll put the things I do for art challenges on Instagram since after a month of daily posting the algorithm lets me be a blip on the radar for a fraction of a second. I was unenthusiastic about Twitter before, but now it's just an utter abyss and I don't see the point in posting there at all at this point.
Bluesky, DeviantArt, Newgrounds
DeviantArt? More like DeviantFART
Where else am I? Cara ꟾ Sheezy.Art ꟾ Geometry Dash ꟾ Reddit ꟾ BlueSky

Thank you so much for all of this really useful and insightful information! I had no idea about any of this, so I really appreciate you adding on to what I’ve said and correcting my mistakes with this! ^^
TikTok was one I completely forgot to mention in my first post. I’ve personally never posted to it before, just done lots of browsing. I keep planning to give it a try at some point but I don’t make videos as much as I used to. I’ve also never posted to YouTube shorts before, only “long-form content” (not sure if that’s the correct term) speedpaints and animations so far. But I digress, thank you so much once again for your help! :]

There's also a pixiv
I mostly post on pixiv since the other sites are more dead than alive, except for deviantart. But there are a lot of restrictions on deviantart for 18+ artworks.
I've posted to Tumblr and Instagram but I'm a little too lazy to do it frequently.
Instagram especially is a pain, sometimes I can't post certain pieces there due to their forced cropping.
I just don't really care for sites other than Newgrounds much.

I didn't know about that, that's so ridiculous. Social medias that use algorithms have always been a pain to me because I just don't know how I'm supposed to deal with it unless I constantly research the algorithm -- which is really annoying, especially if you choose to use multiple websites with multiple algorithms.
this is the only place i use for posting art, i use twitter to just like and retweet stuff and it feels less fun to post there
i believe in you, and dont you forget that baby girl
I post mainly on twitter but I feel like I've hit the algorithm wall. I also use:
I just wish I knew how to get ppl to care about OC stuff like I did before on tumblr before I went back.
Currently using Artfol, Inkblot, and Mastodon for posting art (I have DA but haven't posting on there since their AI drama).
Artfol & Inkblot are pretty new art site, so there's a few user and it's a bit hard to get noticed.
I'm enjoying mastodon right now, there's a lot of my favorite artist from DA that using mastodon too and not only that, I can follow other artist from Pixelfed (IG alternative) and from Misskey (twitter version from Japan) only using Mastodon.
