Expect a lot of news posts this month, as I’ll be announcing recipients of our Annual Drawing Tablet Giveaway while also highlighting cool things that happened on NG this year!
Drawing Tablet 4 - scilab
Today’s tablet recipient is @scilab, who has been drawing on an old iPad!
Scilab has been wanting to draw with a tablet that can be hooked up to his laptop, to have access to more software. Now that can happen!
2023 Highlight - List Jam 2, Where are they Now?
In February @MigMoog, @Default, @nokoi and @Tiny hosted a second List Jam; a game jam where devs are offered a list of items to include in their games.
Today we’re gonna revisit some of the participants of that jam and see what they’ve been up to since then!
@Chdonga entered the jam with a game called M.U.N.K.E. and also contributed art to the fifth place winner Monkey Fcuk, “monkey protagonist” being a big theme this year.
If I had to guess, Monkey Fcuk took some inspiration from Edmund McMillen’s Time Fcuk, although Monkey Fcuk is a considerable departure with the text adventure component.
Chdonga has a long and storied history on Newgrounds, having been attached to projects such as Lord of the Portal, Ritz on a Roll and Kill Lola Bunny but today we’re here to ask: where is he now?
In the time since the List Jam, Chdonga created CLox in Da Hood 6: Bin Laden Strikes back, in celebration of the 19th annual Clock Day and second Clock Day this year, if you count the April Fools Clock Day.
Chdonga also participated in @BlackDingo86NG’s phenomenal Dinosaurs Attack Collab.
His art is #57 in the collab so get ready to appreciate a lot of art on your way there!
Rounding back to Monkey Fcuk, Chdonga worked on a team that included @Sodoj, @blizzsuxx and @NothanyTPM.
In the months since, Sodoj has shared a bunch of cool, creepy monochrome art and participated in a Pizza Tower April Fools gag.
NothanyTPM has shared a lot of art, much of it featuring his rabbit OC, Holrad.
Blizzsuxx was the programmer for Monkey Fcuk but hasn’t been up to any monkey business since.
Next up on the list: Lunatic Lane. This top-down driving game was made by @Frosty, @conundrym and @Nohshy.
They’ve been busy! All three were involved in the NG MS-Paint Collab II, the “Loss” Collab and the Creepypasta Collab.
Frosty and conundrym also worked together on Threat != Contained, for the Halloween Spooktacular.
Frosty has shared all sorts of cool art this year.
You also saw them in the front page box promoting the Creepypasta Collab signups.
And they made this cool entry in the Picayune Dreams Art Contest.
Picayune Dreams is now available on Steam, if you missed that news!
Nohshy hasn’t shared as much art this year but what they’ve shared has been cool.
Conundrym has been making art AND music. A lot of these songs would work great in a spooky / atmospheric game.
Here’s a second dose of creepypasta and Picayune Dreams art:
Alright, we’ve checked Lunatic Lane off the list. Next up is My Aunt’s Cats, which combined “cabin in the woods with a monster” and “cats everywhere” to great effect.
This game was made by @GunTurtle, who in the time since has made a Celeste mod that can’t be played here. They did however release another unique game in January and have shared pixel art over the past year.
@LakenDaCoda made the winning game, Monkey Quest, a 3D text adventure with tank controls, if you can imagine that!
In the time since, LakenDaCoda created Questern, an adventure comic that continues to get new pages added. I discovered Questern by making this post; it’s now up on the front page.
LakenDaCoda has also been making art! Here’s some Punch Punch Forever fan art:
@Deino01 won second place in the jam, with TRORB, a puzzle platformer that has a really long intro with a well put together game on the other end. Seriously, wait out the intro!
Deino01 had been off my radar until I made this post, I’m following them now. Check out this Anton Blast fanart.
Third place in List Jam 2 went to @tydaze with Pimbo’s Pudding Panic. It’s like a 2D Super Monkey Ball!
Tydaze returned for the Halloween Spooktacular, teaming up with @LuckyDingoStudios to create the charming Marelza’s Cauldron.
@GGMagenta was our fourth place winner with Crystal Coconut, made in Flash and running via Ruffle. Gather coconuts while avoiding your shadows, mechanics like this are always neat.
GGMagenta continued to make games this year, using Godot to create Eclipsed Memory before returning to Flash for XOXO Puzzle.
