Drawing Tablet 10 - Sanpellgrino
Today’s tablet recipient is @Sanpellgrino, who has been drawing on a phone screen.
With a tablet, Sanpellgrino will put their PC to more use and have less restrictions!
2023 Highlight - Student Films
Last December I attempted a roundup of student films on NG and it’s time to do it again!
If you’ve shared an animated film made for school, tag your entry with “student-film” and the optional “thesis-film” tag if it’s your thesis film. Additional context in the author commentary is also helpful, including details like what art school you are attending and what year of school you were in when you made the piece. Information like this helps people who are curious about schools and is also helpful for historical documentation, like this post!
As a broader practice, anything on NG that was made for school could add a "school-project" tag, as well!
This year I’m gonna cluster movies by school and maybe we’ll manage to categorize the ones where that info is unknown. Some of these films were created in previous years but made their NG premier in 2023.
School of Visual Arts (SVA)
The School of Visual Arts in NYC has consistently introduced us to lots of great movies. This year we saw works from @Jaquin, @foneycone, @jbrennart, @not160cm, @tsuunaamii, @heyddderek and @Tiredcartoonist.
Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD)
Savannah College of Art and Design also delivered this year, with movies by @brerbo, @Saywanay and @numijulie. There’s also a cool trailer for Gearbevel City!
Villa Maria College
Villa Maria College in NY didn’t come up in last year’s post but it had a strong showing this year, thanks to @TiCla and @Pichiru!
University of Central Florida (UCF)
I hope the University of Central Florida knows how lucky it is to have an animation powerhouse like @9Hammer in their ranks! Among lots of other great work, 9Hammer shared his thesis animation this year.
Northern Kentucky University (NKU)
@FlumpyTripod shared his movie from a 2017 animation class at NKU.
Woodbury University
Based in Burbank, Woodbury is close to Hollywood and home to @spicybagel’s excellent senior thesis!
California Institute of the Arts (CalArts)
Some great work comes out of CalArts and we’d love to see more of it here! This year we were treated to an experimental animation by @meowballz.
Cal State LA
Located in the heart of Los Angeles, Cal State LA is on the board with two films from @WizardoFrank this year!
California College of the Arts (CCA)
California College of the Arts is another school I wasn’t familiar with but @aggimajera has been a great representative with Senia. @CitrusTheNerd recently shared his Junior film, too!
Pratt Institute
Based in NY, Pratt is a top-ranked school for visual arts and design. This year @gilfgavin shared his 2022 thesis film!
Massachusetts College of Art and Design
@snailpirate shared his senior thesis from MassArt, featuring music by @AlbeGian! Students should keep in mind that NG is a great resource for music. @Catsko shared a student film, as well!
Academy of Interactive Technology (AIT)
The Academy of Interactive Technology is a smaller university in Sydney, Australia but it has some big output thanks to the team of @momu, @Alpal55, @frixiot and @monsterbytes!
Toulouse Lautrec Institute
Toulouse Lautrec Institute is based in Peru. @Yojh shared an impressive piece made for their course in Digital Animation!
MoPA
MoPA is an international school based in France and dedicated to 3D animation. This year @NoeDouliere shared their first 3D animation!
University of Maryland, Baltimore County (UMBC)
@PaNDaPowerRULEZ made Maryland proud with his 2022 senior thesis animation.
Colorado Mesa University (CMU)
Colorado Mesa University has also joined the list this year, thanks to @Turple!

The School of Design in Bratislava, Slovakia has been added to our map, with this piece by @SirPoToo.
CAAV Universidad de Medios Audiovisuales
@KokoroHatsaru attends the University of Audiovisual Media, where she had the opportunity to make a Madness Day movie for class!
Vancouver Film School
@N4sh0 hails from VFS as does @Syrupmasterz, who shared his second 2016 films here after a bit of delay. @J-AlanBaker also shared two movies from 2017 this year, bringing the VFS total to four!
