i need help drawing hair for boy ocs. im usually drawing girls but i would like to expand my character variety.
sadly all my male hair i draw tends to look the same.
i want to improve on the variety. any help?

A man's hair is the same as a woman's hair. As with anything, it's dependent on his personality and background. A soldier would want to have short, clean cut hair as it helps with putting on helmets and keeping in line with his uniform. A rebellious character, on the other hand would be a lot more loose. Maybe he'd wear long hair. Maybe he'd shave part of his head too, or maybe he'd wear pigtails for extra style points.
I'd ask myself what haircuts I like seeing on male characters. When I look at my favorite guy designs, I get a pretty good idea on what I want and I go from there. If you're really struggling, I suggest going on Pinterest and eyeballing a few haircuts to get a good grasp on it all. Good luck.

Just study life, see how men wear their hair, find some styles you like and get inspired.
In my experience, the biggest challenge when going from mostly feminine hairstyles to masculine hairstyles (I've been there too) was to actually learn how to properly draw a variety of different foreheads and hairlines - It's easy to neglect that part of the head when you've mostly worked with long hair and bangs that cover everything. Re-evaluate what you know about drawing heads!
I assume you mean common men's haircut so I'd suggest looking up men's hairstyle online. Pinterest is a good source for references. It also depends on where and when he lives. A man in 1876 France is going to have a different hairstyle than a man in 2024 South Korea. Age is also an important factor. Even men in the same culture will wear their hair differently depending on how old they are. Of course personality plays a part in this, even then most alternative fashion enjoyers will try to avoid "dated hairstyles" or styles that aren't popular in their given subculture. Of course this applies to women too.
