What's the funniest video game translation you have ever seen?

Any perspective... Like the worst translation release in your country. Show images, maybe explain if you want. ANY language's translation for your video game. Maybe explain why it is bad. As one of the funniest, as an outsider reading FF7's ESP is downright hilarious... FF7's innaproperiate use of grammatical gender, often turning male nouns and female nouns being broken... Or misusing the word for party. French, Italian, German, Dutch, Swedish, or any language vs. the original game's language. I want to see some funny ones. Maybe dubs should be included. xD I want to see some bad any language. English included.

FF7's ESP is funnier and just simply worse.

Eh! And you have another handsome person with you ( Singular ).. ( I am forcing it make sense in English logic ). What's so funny about this? Otro + guapo. YOU ARE REFERRING TO AERITH AS A GUY! XD Due to using the masculine form of otro and guapo = handsome, it's in the masculine case.

The "Stop acting like a retard and climb" doesn't sound too bad.

I laugh about this meme. Damn it is ancient now. I like seeing bad translation as if got a dictionary stockpile... Like me. You can figure out the cause. I can tell what happened with game was... Japanese tenses are focused on formality, don't have a future tense. So the idea of " You are dead vs. you are already dying " that idea doesn't exist. The closest non-Asian language with a similar quirk would be Swedish where "have/had" are the same. The lack of conjugation for person being second, plural, or third. =P I love having grammar books for anything. Why have google translate when I can at least have something with nuance and morbid curiosity.

This is actually how people would talk in the 90s. Now we live in a politically correct environment and words can be so hurtful. Even though when most people used that word even in the 90s they weren't trying to be mean or even meant as an attack on people who were born with mental disorders. It was more of an attack on people that just behaved in a idiotic manner. Or at least that's how I've always viewed that word.

German translation of Link's Awakening, for this particular line:

iu_1221618_3025451.jpg

Slimes talk when you use magic powder on them. They say something harmless in other versions, but in the german version they say: "NIE OHNE KONDOM!", which translates to "NEVER WITHOUT A CONDOM!". They also have a chance to say another line: "GIB MIR DEINEN SAFT, ICH GEB DIR MEINEN...", which translates to "GIVE ME YOUR JUICE, I'LL GIVE YOU MINE...".

This was very confusing when I was a kid.

Now we are cooking up some of the funniest crap as I wonder how on earth did this happen. I am always weirded out how every V in my language, ends up as a B in yours though. xD .... I like seeing international bad translations as I like Megaman 8's intro cutscene is absolutely comic gold. Well mispronunciation of " Bass" for the Fish rather than the musical instrument" . German is downright silly and wished it wasn't the " angry " tongue when in reality it's very soft. I want to find the original script in JP, to see what happened.

Zelda games french version is the worst, back in ocarina of time and Majora's mask.

They have a tendancy to modify anything that they don't like. Like Deku Scrubs

are Mojos. Or Chou Peteur.. Or calling The Master Sword literally "Excalibur"

in late version they call it sometimes "L'epee du maitre" which is the right

translation. But you get the idea. French people love to take control

on whatever the hell they want and change shit that are not meaning

a damn thing. They do that with movies, shows, and comics..

I speak french and thankfully I learned english.

So, I can judge their stupidity rightfully.

I've seen french translations of movie titles that don't really preserve the meaning of the original english title, but then I've also seen translations of titles that make much more sense over the english version. I don't think it's better or worse, it's just standard practice I guess? It's charming in its own right in any case.

I have always heard the Spanish version of Ocarina of time... Oh they didn't even try to make it Spanish. Oh how dificult Spanish is to speak. Due to switching SVO, OSV, SOV. It is cruel with the amount of conjugations. At least French when spoken seems to be more consistent.

Cul de sac? LMFAO French makes no sense with the names of things. Then again why the bald mice for bats? Oh most latin tongues use that....

It was snuck in by a german translator who is now slightly infamous for his work during the 90s. They removed those two lines in the Gameboy Color release.

I am always weirded out how every V in my language, ends up as a B in yours though.

Those two letters are pronounced pretty similar in spanish as far as I know, but are more distinct in german.

Thank god they kicked out your "translator" unlike our modern situation in the Anglosphere going all to sh*t because of bad faith official translations... I would say the German is more fortified than the Spanish's much softer version. I still hear it as an allophone of B, but NEVER V. You don't have enough vowels. I wonder if you got more of those dreadful translations. :)

Unironically. I would prefer to buy a non-ENG copy of stuff I love as I remember with an Italiano I spoke to almost a year ago about it. I was shocked he was not having that issue. Basically bad translators are way too common or misdirected as possible.

This sounds like a foreigner trying to speak Polish, but first of all? Where is that nasal sound? Second, do they not know Polish is a Slavic language with a consonant distinction of HARD vs. SOFT sort of system? I don't speak Polish, never touched Polish, haven't fully grabbed my Russian book, but know the sound system that seems to be inherited with Polish.

My ears are bleeding. This is less " Megaman 8 " and more like beyond cheap. Subtitles > Dubs no matter the context on average. As 1. Can be ignored or 2. You learn something from it. I go with #2.... This is simply abysmal. Wrong focus on everything?

That nasal sound used to be a feature of the Polish language. But as the language evolved, it was mostly replaced by approximate "diphtongs" for lack of a better term. Ą became ou/om/on/oń and Ę became e/en/em/eń

Today, accentuating the full nasal sounds is a sign of hypercorrectness and sound forced.

It's not true. The lack of hard/soft consonants is actually one of the things that makes Polish speakers ALWAYS speak Russian with a super thick accent, no matter how fluent.

as much as i love the politically incorrect language of the 90s its also not a faithful translation and thats what makes it funny

The only game I can directly think of where I've seen some pretty poor, funny translations is Sonic 06. The game is pretty poor anyways, but lines like "bring 5 product" never fail to make me laugh.

I'm struggling to find a screenshot of this, but in Harvest Moon Friends of Mineral Town GBA, they just don't translate some of the text in the English version.

The one I remember the best is when you talk to the shipping guy and he says

"Player,

*3 text boxes of untranslated text*

The farming life suits you well!"
