I just wanted to ask about what is going on with the general forum. I haven't been there in quite a number of years, back when I was using an older account, and I decided to check up on it today for old times sake. It seems it's been inactive since March, and there is no way to create new topics or respond to anyone's posts. What happened?

can we please forcibly hide it and politics from all users and make the people who still want to view it have to tweak their settings again?
and put a note beside and on top of the locked forums saying THIS FORUM IS LOCKED. CLICK HERE TO SEE WHY.
or do threads like this not happen often enough to justify the effort?

They are hidden by default for new users, the issue with hiding them for old users is that everyone has personalized forum listing settings so it wasn't a straightforward change (I still wish they could just be hidden for everyone like this post suggests).
We could also improve the messaging so people don't get as confused about them not working... Just hasn't been big priority with the hundreds of other tickets that need dealing with.

It shouldn’t be closed though, it’s history and it’s been in NG ever since the start.
Simply removing it because of trollers is ridiculous.
The history is preserved, though. You can still look at old threads there.
