What is Scout? I really need help 2024-08-29 20:37:52

Hi hi everyone!!

I use to forget I have Newgrounds XD but sometimes I post my drawings here. When I come back (after a lot of months) I found a message from M-Bot saying "Portal Invite by ******* " (when * is an user name). But 2 things are happening here: 1- I have no idea what "has offered to scout you" means

2- When I click the link, all I find is an "ERROR — The page you requested could not be found." message...

So.. can anybody explain me a bit about this so I can stop ignoring Newgrounds and the messages? (if there is any Native Spanish speaker who can explain it will be really great)

Hi. Sorry, I'm not a Spanish speaker, but I'll try to explain simply.

Newgrounds has a scouting system for the Art and Audio portals as a form of quality control.

Before you are "scouted", your works appear in the undiscovered artist section that is a bit hidden behind a bunch of filters, quite hard to stumble across if you don't know about it. No requirements to post there, but you won't get as many views.

When somebody who is scouted themselves recognizes the quality of your work, they may offer to "scout" you. This is something you can be proud of, and once you accept it, your works will appear in the Latest art section, among other scouted artists whose art has been deemed of sufficient quality.

As for the error message, I don't know. Perhaps you took too long before considering to accept it (you said it has been a few months), and the person who offered to scout you rescinded the offer, or it expired.

But your art is good, someone else will probably offer to scout you again (don't ask someone to be scouted yourself, that's considered a bad form).

Thanks a lot for the information! I was really confused about it and can't find a proper translation for the meaning.

At least I just added the Newgrounds site to my "pin tabs". I hope it can helps to stop forgetting about the site and stay updated to the notifications. Thanks a lot for your really helpful answer.

I believe it comes from a “talent scout” (in Spanish).
