Rules regarding game mod uploads? 2024-09-22 17:12:38

What kind of rules or restrictions are there for uploading mods of games that are already on Newgrounds? Are they even allowed? I think it's almost a given that I need the permission of the original developers.

I have been the sole developer behind a project that, more or less, completely recreates the original game files for Madness Project Nexus Classic, called "Recompiled". The output when compiled using CS6 is nearly identical to the original game. I made these tools accessible to everyone and I, myself, have also used them to nearly completely overhaul the game, with several new systems, including new Tac-Bars, a Healthbar, a weapon modification system (WIP, but functional), a system involving weapon penetration, armor durability, and repairing armor, and even a system that allows for certain units to buff an entire faction, for example Officers that "harden" Tac-Bars, and even providing enemies that lack a Tac-Bar with very weak Tac-Bars. There is even more to this list that I haven't mentioned.

I have also added about two dozen guns, various melees of all kinds, and many different pieces of armor. Of which, every new weapon was drawn, animated, and coded by me, and about half of all armor added was also drawn by me. The original creators of armor pieces not made by me are credited.

The name of my mod is "Redux Deluxe". I had an older mod before Recompiled called MERC/Redux that was made using a flash decompiler instead. You might know me from that precursor mod.

As of the present, I'm unaware of how one would handle such a prospect, and if it's even allowed. I've looked around but haven't been able to find anything concrete. I vaguely recall a conversation or two on the topic, but those were very vague. I would love a response on the matter. Thanks in advance.

Hmm, double-checked, found the game guidelines page, which states mods aren't allowed. Though I also found a few comments from site moderators that imply that if there is enough original content, it might be allowed. I guess clarification may still be needed.
