TANKMAN: THE MOVIE 2024-12-01 13:57:23

So we are all familiar with the concept of movie adaptations, now unlike games or books internet properties are rare to see be turned into movies (unless you're Fred or Smosh or Creepypasta), here especially, only closest thing we've got is the madness combat trailers and those are pretty awesome sauce however I thought of an even BETTER idea: Tankman the movie, we have animated short films here on the site but I MEAN CINEMATIC FILMS live action or not.

I doubt this would actually happen unless Johnny or Tom signs something however I'd like to discuss this idea with yall, like "if it's live action who would be casted" or "what would it even be about" etc, I'd like to even cast out ideas like "how it would suck" cause that's a big thing with adaptations, love to hear what yall say.

If there was a Tankman movie it definitely wouldn’t be live action, probably 2d animation. Now when you say “Tankman” do you mean Newgrounds as a whole or just Tankman himself? Either way I feel like Tankman would definitely be the main character.

I meant just tankman and his folks but if they included some other ng properties that would be fun though I'd be afraid they'd pull some mcu type stuff on it.

About the 2d thing though, I believe the same thing however I'm thinking realistically and most likely they'd make them real or maybe 3d which I could stand but I get the most joy out of the designs being 2d but why would studios listen to fans (unless this production was FULLY IN HOUSE which could also work but I don't know Tom's/Johnny's net worth so still hypothetically this movie is made by a big studio).

I dont know, Tankmen does'nt scream "modern-day iconic" in the same way other media during the turn of the millennium. It would probably have a limited release and if other NG characters appear, BF would be featured in promotional material to boost ticket sales.

If animated half-hour NG specials are a regular occurrence on the site, who should be the "ringleader character"?

I didn't even think of the possibility of "The popular one being used for posters" but that's a interesting idea (mostly for the inspiration for fake cheesy promo posters that say crap like "it'll take more then a (tank)man to solve this problem").

Also another good question, the normal answer would probably be the opposing tankmen or maybe even all the ng baddies team up in a league of villains (kinda basic but imagine all the wacky scenarios!!) Or Alternatively it could be a super meta villain who wishes all these wackos to be extinct because their ill-fitting against the villain's basic design standards but near the end of the film the moral is that you should be yourself or something and I imagine during the climax one of the heroes say "EVERYTHING BY EVERYONE!", it's so dumb but it could work.

I wouldn’t mind it being 3d, as long as they don’t pull an ugly sonic 💀. Maybe we could do something like the Spiderverse with cel shading and stuff. If it was live action we’d have to make sure the costumes are made correctly.

I also wish the same, something like that or worthikids, also I'm now thinking about the possibility of live action and GOD THE COSTUMES WOULD BE SO BULKY they'd have to thin things out or it'll look like spy kids or something.

Honestly pretty good ideas, if executed properly.

The idea of creativity but not done in a sugary cynical way.

I've actually thought about this idea since around Tankmen 2. While unlikely to ever happen, especially in any kind of big budget production: the characters and world already established by Johnny could work in a feature lenght format, though preferably as an animated movie because I don't think live action would do the justice of conveying the distinct aesthetic style of the tankmen and their world. It could be 2D or 3D or a hybrid (cel-shaded 3D maybe) but it would have to be animation. And it would have to be an action comedy like Johnny's cartoons, the plot can't really take itself too seriously.

But for the soundtrack at least, there is already this one fantastic cinematic theme from way back:

First of all I'm talking with a VET OMG second it would have to be a really good cel-shaded 3d film because I realize manually shading in a style like this would be a nightmare, I mean it could work but deadlines are a son of a bench (not saying 3d is easy but definitely easier to fix and render there, to my knowledge).

Also the song is FANTASTIC!!! and would be pretty good for this hypothetical film.

Funny enough, 10 years before making the Madness: Project Nexus cinematic trailer, I worked with Tom to make a live-action Newgrounds series called "Newgrounds: The Forsaken City" via KickStarter.

The video below is our KickStarter campaign video, is actually a first-person TANKMEN short film set in the same world the web series would have been in. Our plan was to have Pico, Piconjo, Darnell, Nene, Hank (Madness), Tank Men, Mastermind, Alien Hominid, Dad'n'Me, and a bunch of other NG classics play pivotal roles in an epic 9-part story that sadly never made its goal!

Coming back nearly a decade later to make the Madness Cinematic Trailers was such a blast!

Hope you enjoy this Tank Men short film, and the look at what could have been a really epic live-action web series!

OMG HELLO CHASE! first of all a SUPER honor for you to reply to my post, I find you super cool and your work on the mpn trailer was AWESOME-SAUCE (recently was celebrating the release date of the cinematic trailer with a funny drawing), Secondly I did not know this or the kickstarter existed and GOLLY THIS IS NEATO! Thank you for showing me this and I hope this idea gets revisited :]
