We almost made it through 2024 without losing anyone (that we were notified of), only to lose Squize a few weeks ago and now today we have more bad news, with the passing of @BlackDevilX.

Rob Lewis, aka BlackDevilX was best known around here for the Final Fantasy Sonic X and Super Smash Allstars series.

He was also a father, radio show host and loved connecting with fans.

His history on NG spans 15 years and his last Tweet was a playful throwback to the FF Sonic X series:

Rob passed of a heart attack while on vacation with his family in Aruba, as reported by his sister and relayed to me by @JRetrioX, a huge BDX fan.

Rob will be missed and has been added to the In Memoriam page.

Update: We've loved seeing your FFSX art celebrating Rob's legacy!

I'm terribly sorry to hear this. He was someone with so much talent and passion. I only knew him for Final Fantasy Sonic X, a great series with so much replay value, but my condolences go to all his friends and family. Rest in peace, you will be missed.

This man gave me and a lot of people a great community to connect with others over our shared interests through his work. Personally, HellBlazeCafe was the main reason I even attempted to try my hand at Flash/Sprite stuff. He will be missed.

I'm sorry to hear this, already two flash developers died this year and I even played their games. Although I did not know BlackDevilX personally, I wish him to rest in peace and my condolences to his loved ones and fans.

RIP, he brought a lot of fun and joy to me and plenty of others who enjoyed his work from so long ago, I'm sure he will at least continue to entertain others with them

Damn, I'm deeply sorry to hear this new. I never had occasion to directly interact with this person, but I am discovering his works right now and I must say he had lots of talent and creativity. I am exploring his Final Fantasy Sonic X series and I already love it with its engaging story.

Rest in peace, I send my condolences to the family, friends and people who met him.

Never played anything you made, but you seemed like a great and lovely human being, gone far too early. Heart attacks suck.

Final fantasy Sonic X had a HUGE role in my childhood and even nowadays I'd just play the FFSX games occasionally, because it never stopped being important to me. His art was really influential to many young people on the internet in the 2000's, these are very sad news to wake up to, my condolences go toward his family and loved ones, rest in peace Rob Lewis.

His flashes defined my childhood. All my friends in elementary school were fans of the Final Fantasy Sonic X series. Even though we couldn't understand the dialogue (we were brazilian with a limited knowledge of the english language, after all), it was just too cool to see these epic fights and characters that we have never seen before. My biggest regret is to have never known the person behind the work better!

Thank you for everything Rob, rest in peace knowing that many people of all ages around the world have been, and will continue to be, happy thanks to what you gifted us.
