What are some good mobile games?

So here's the situation: I recently got myself a new phone, a Pixel 8. I tried to sell my old phone, a Pixel 7, to a second hand electronics shop, but they would only offer £15 for it since it had a crack on the camera lens (yep, that was the only problem it had). So I decided to take it back from the shop, keep it, and use it as a secondary device just for mobile gaming, since it's not something I really like doing on my primary device.

Problem is, a lot of what you see on the Play Store is either turd, or ports of already-existing PC/console games. There are a few interesting mobile exclusives I know of currently; for example, Threes!, a number tile sliding game and the precursor to 2048, and Ordia, a platformer where you must fling a tiny lifeform across a series of dots. However, I'm otherwise unfamilar with the genre, which is why I'm turning to the Newgrounds community for help!

Does anyone have any recommendations for interesting mobile games, preferably ones without ads/in-app purchases (although I can be flexible)? I've largely avoided the genre until now, and even though there's a lot of crap, I'm confident that beneath all that there are buried some absolute gems.

Just glitchin' about.

Just did! The officer got real salty and said I get to go to this place called "the station". Does this mean I won?

I've definitely wanted to play Epic Battle Fantasy! Although I've heard they're long games, so I'm gonna need to be in a position where I can commit to something like that first.

Just glitchin' about.

Seems it hasn't been updated since 2015. The Play Store only lets you install apps that have been updated to support a fairly recent Android version, unfortunately.

Yo Kai Watch Puni Puni is the only free mobile game without ads that's good, but that could be because I'm not supposed to be playing a Japanese exclusive game lmao.

But if paying is in the equation...

My Singing Monsters (pay to remove egregious ads)

Bloons TD6

Bloons TD5

Bloons Monkey City (pay to remove egregious ads)

Jetpack Joyride (pay to remove egregious ads)

Cut the Rope (any) (pay to remove egregious ads)

Angry Birds (any) (pay to remove egregious ads)

Take it with a grain of salt, I am slower than a snail.

Any flash game's mobile port. At least I haven't seen any bad ones so far.

Even tough i don't really play Mobile games anymore one game that i highly recommend you play is one called Candies 'N' Curses, it's a pretty fun and simple game where you play as a girl called Molli who got herself stuck in a haunted mansion, you control the game by sliding you're finger on the screen to move and jump, the games practically ad-free with the expection of little things that are completely skipable (eg: ''Watch ad for a free revive'')

Making silly illustrations and hoping people enjoy them.

Dead trigger 2

Really good zombie fps

Scribble hero (top down shooter with upgrades and power upside by nickelodeon) u need an apk to play it cuz its no longer on Playstore or you can play it on kindle fire kids gaming or thing. Brawl stars, I've been hooked on it since late 2018. Angry birds, the og one. Try beating angry birds with no power ups. Hard as hell. Gun bros by glu. A chore to emulate but an amazing top down co op shooter. Glu is now owned by EA and does not make super good games no more. Gun bros Fandom .com will help you find emulation resources. Eden obscura. Still available and has paid dlc map types. Basically just eden by pixel junk but with camera gimmicks and characters that have different abilities to traverse the odd maps. Yall know what I'm talking about if you played og eden on ps3 before. Awsome tanks mobile, yes, basically awsome tanks 3 by emitter critter. Needs more players honestly. Emitter Citter emailed me too (Image on top) (tank xey is the best awsome tanks youtuber if u need guides). Radiant by Hexage is a good bullet hell Galactica type game with 3 like 30 min campaigns with bosses, story, and upgrades. No pay to win, just good old Galactica bullet hell inspiration with a blissful soundtrack LOL and neyon pixelated graphics. Hexage underrated game studio fr.

Just tried it out, it's a neat little game! There's something really satisfying about walking in front of a whole bunch of enemies and watching them all explode. Unfortunately, Google Play Games achievements don't seem to be working on this game for me, so I don't know if I'll come back to this one often (I'm an achievement hunter).

The Battle Cats is probably my favorite mobile game. Though I lost my save and don't feel like starting all over again

Snood is pretty sweet as a mobile game, the in-app purchases and such are not intrusive considering. It’s by the same creator as the classic old puzzle game!

You can also play with my Snood drawings (link to do that in the description):

Also in the same “unobtrusive dumb Mobile game stuff” category, Super Toss the Turtle is fun and you only need to watch ads optionally to get the currency that unlocks characters!

Both Downwell and Dandara are absolutely amazing games. While they have gotten ports to other platforms, they were primarily designed with mobile in mind. You will have to pay for these games up-front in order to play them, but other than that these are straight forward proper video game experiences.

i'm not sure if it's been listed so far, but Candies n' Curses is really good. Surprisingly fun given it's fairly repetitive, and the pixel art is ABSOLUTELY GORGEOUS

Hi all, thanks so much for the suggestions! I'm sorry I haven't had time to reply to every single one, but I do wanna say that I am seeing every one that comes through, and I'm noting them all down!

I've heard of Brawl Stars, it actually has some interesting character designs. May give it a try.

I've heard of this one as well; TomSka actually got sponsored by them once. I'm not a massive fan of strategy games, but it's worth giving it a shot.

Oh wow, I've never seen this one before. I do like retro Windows stuff, and it has Google Play Games achievements as well! I'll definitely be trying this one out.

Not gonna lie, I'd never heard of Snood until I saw your pixel art sprites. I guess I was just born in the wrong generation for it. As far as I can tell, it's a kind of Puzzle Bobble clone. The default art style isn't my cup of tea, so if I do play it I'll definitely use your sprites for sure.

Also, I had no idea Toss The Turtle had an enhanced version on mobile; I have every medal on the Newgrounds version! Thanks for showing me this, I'll definitely be playing this one.

Not sure if it falls to the strategy games category. To me it feels more like tower defense. Also it has a gacha systme but it is so friendly to the players where you should avoid buying stuff with real money.

My suggestion: ditch video games and download a little app called reddit, helps to make you smarter. Trust me it won't disappoint.

Burrito Bison: Fun and colorful launch game.

Dumb Ways To Die 2: Basically Warioware, but on Mobile.

Not Not 1-2: Puzzle games that tests your brain when asked to do something.

Soul Knight: Basically Enter the Gungeon, but on Mobile (This one has some In-app purchases and asks you to play with the internet on, but there's a lot that you can get for free and I believe it doesn't have Ads [but if it has, It' minimal]).

Stickman Warriors (ViperGames): Quirky and fun physics game.

That Level Again Series: Puzzle games in which to solve the levels, sometimes you need to do something on your phone like turn brightness up, change a option, etc.

Honorable Mentions

Clash Royale: A card online game that is fun and addictive, it has a bunch of In-App Purchases, but you can fight your way through without wasting money.

Dan the Man: Enjoyable 2d Platformer that if interested, I recommend to purchase the premium version that costs $2.99, because on free version it has some disgusting limitations.

PVZ2 Reflourished: This one is a mod of PVZ2, it changes the whole game by making it enjoyable to play through without having to worry about micro-transactions, gonna have to watch a tutorial to know how to apply it on the game.

Vector Classic: Awesome Parkour game that costs $0.99 (There is a free version, though I read that it's not worth it).
