Hey! I’ve been sick for a few days and I’m trying to take it easy on myself, so I’ve been spending some time playing through a lot of point and click puzzle horror games online. Already got partway through the Forgotten Hill series and finished Monster Basement. Gimme more!

This game is a point-and-click crossover between Silent Hill and Madness Combat:

UFO 50 has a point-and-click adventure game called Night Manor. I haven’t gotten around to it yet but it looks pretty fun!

I'm actually a big fan of point and click horror games, but it's hard to find good ones these days. Most of them are just stock games with crusty jpeg assets and no real scares. Here are a few quality ones from here off the top of my head:

On the subject, there was an old point and click horror game that I have been looking for for decades now. It was from the 2000's, had pre-rendered 3d, and it involved you traversing through a spooky mansion. There's a particular moment where you encounter a zombie girl, and have to return her missing doll, and then she gives you a map afterwards. It's pretty much lost media, and I have only ever found one accurate recollection of it, but no name.

Already mentioned the Exmortis series of course but here's this as well.

Don't know how well they hold up. The worst part is, I remember one in particular that kicked ass! It was themed as a murder investigation but with the usual sort of puzzles BUT once you get so far into it, it says "the killer knows you're onto him" and you've one minute to finish it!

Unfortunately, I don't remember the name of it and I don't think it was on here anyway so it's probably gone forever and now I'm sad.

Nobody beats the 83457 and all that.

Holy fuck, I just read that book along with his Invisible Cities. Not sure how his esoteric prose would translate to a game but I'm in.

Look up Scratches. It's a point-and-click immersive horror game that has a strong atmosphere.

Just don't play the epilogue

This isn't a "serious" recommendation and it's not--technically--point and click, but given your taste I would very much appreciate/respect your opinion on our own (very short) Goosebumpsesque horror adventure:

This iceberg video is actually a good recource, it contains plenty of horror-themed flash games. I'm not sure if all of them use the mouse exclusively.

I remember a long time ago there was an old Wallace and Gromit shovelware point and click puzzle horror game, It was really weird, there were evil Wallace and gromit clones that had taken over and you had to solve their puzzles or something, wasn't the best game though, most of the assets were ripped from stock images or crudely drawn by whoever made it, and the backgrounds were all just black. Idk what it's called or where it is, but I remember having fun playing it when I was at school.

Hopefully I can amend that situation just a little bit in the future. Point and click puzzle games seem like a viable next step in my coding journey, and I love me some creepy plot lines. Maybe I can come to you for consultation on my next game.

(That is, as soon as I’m done making this stupid update for the dress-up game…)

I'm totally down with giving pointers if you make a point and click horror game. I've always wanted to make my own, but I have so many other commitments at the moment. Still, I've had a lot of ideas for horror games that I'd like to make or see in the future.

I’ve got my own horror universe in the works that the games I’m planning will take place in - maybe I could tie some of your ideas in somehow.

Scriptwelder also made the Don't Escape series, which are also in-universe with the Deep Sleep series

Scriptwelder started to release the next entries directly on steam, in case you got interested with the series, Don't Escape 4 is quite pricey.

In 2024 he released a new demo for the next entry of the Deep Sleep series.

Sound interesting! I've been playing point-and-click games since I was a kid, so I'm always finding cool mechanics and premises which aren't seen in many other games. I especially love the ones that incorporate threats and enemies. If I had the time, I'd use my modeling skills to cobble together an old-school escape game, like the one I mentioned earlier. But still, I'm willing to share any Ideas which I have either found or thought up in my years of playing escape games.

Also, I just remembered a few more games:
