What do you think of these character designs?

Last year I showed off the designs for my short visual novel project, since then I've decided to reboot it as a future webnovel and many things have already changed, such as: more characters and a few design tweaks for old characters

What do you think of these designs? Which one stands out the most and/or interests you? When you see them, what do you think their personality and interests are?

Literally every character is the same.

You have a greater chance in life of experiencing the lazarus phenomenon (Being declared dead and then living again a short brief period later) than making some earth shattering masterpiece of a work.

Art stuff or something like that.

Yes! They are uniform

Their designs are very varied, but I'm not particularly drawn to the eye design, and it might be better if they weren't all the same size (since they have almost the same body). Overall, they look interesting, and my favorite is the blonde girl in the red shirt. I love designs similar to that character.

Same face syndrome cranked to the max.

You can have the same eye design, but vary them a little, I guess the headshape also contributes to it, but vary either the eyes or head, then they all wont look the exact same besides hair and mouth.

Take it with a grain of salt, I am slower than a snail.

I like that the personality of each comes through in their facial expressions, clothes, bust size, hairstyle, and even muscle tone. I can see you’re trying to speed things up for yourself with the uniform bodies and eyes, which I can get behind. The style kinda reminds me of Pinky Street dolls which I really like!

What’s the story about? That might help me in picking which ones I like the best. So far I like Peace Chick the most (2nd in the 2nd Row) and also her friend to the right.

the outfits and hair help strike different silhouettes which I appreciate for a larger cast.

For a lineup to work out their outfits I think this sheet works but a sheet where they're posed more naturally may help convey their personalities a bit more strongly for crit

Heavy same face syndrome but clothes and hairstyles look very different from each other. While their bodies have small differences in shape they are all the same height. Make their height varied too, not just how wide or thin they are.

What makes character design so hard is that all those questions should be answered by looking at the character.

The good news is I can tell you have strong ideas about all of them, but this needs to be reflected in their design.

Note, there are many roads to achieve this.

Pay attention to the Shape language, body language and doubly so for cartoon characters.

Using vastly different forms for the head, torso and build will help tell who they are inside.

The uniformity of everything makes them look like you hit Random on a custom character creator 18 times.

I can see from your responses that being cookie cutter samey is intentional, but I just wouldn't be interested in anything that does that, on purpose or not.

Thank you! The story is about the one with pink hair having fun with her best friends (the two girls to the left) forever and ever even if they really don't want to be around her

Thank you! I'll make a few pieces of artwork with these characters before I begin writing the novel!

Yes! They die and/or get tortured in different ways due to a timeloop where everything has to be "fun" in new ways each time! In the original pilot/VN it would be off-screen, but I'm thinking of writing those scenes full out in this future reboot

I think your characters have a nice range of color palettes and facial expressions. I do think their body types and heights as well as faces need some more diversity. I would recommend studying shape language in character design, by trying to give them different body types and facial features, such as wider noses, upturned/downturned eyes, full lips, thin lips, hair textures, etc. Good luck :)

Thank you for the feedback! I appreciate your thoughts on the color palettes and expressions. I'll definitely work on adding more variety in body types, heights, and facial features. Studying shape language sounds like a great idea to improve my designs. Thanks again for the advice! 😊

Sometimes I wanna see a cute girl, but there isn't any so I make one.

Read Annie & Laura!

they all have pretty clean silhouettes and readable colors. tho they are a little too uniform, a bit of variety in terms of height and eye shape would go a long way.

generally pretty neat, love yellow piece sign person.
