Top Ten Martial Arts...

I know top ten lists are lame and overused, but I want to see how much everyone knows about martial arts in general. If you wish, you can display why you chose certain styles to go where they are after your list.
Your top ten lists should be based on technique, principles, and philosophy...not on "I saw some guy with such-and-such style beat up a whatchamacallit style guy."
The object of this isn't to offend people, so be polite and have a discussion...not an argument.
My personal MA top 10:
10) Capoeira
9) Aikido
8) Hapkido/Tae Kwon Do
7) Baguazhang
6) Muai Thai
5) Eight Drunken Immortals
4) Wong, Chen, or Wu style Taijiquan
3) Okinawan Karate
2) Ninjutsu
1) Shaolin and its derivatives (Choy Lee Fut, Wing Chun, 5 Animals, Arhat, Praying Mantis, Eagle Claw, etc)
*Note* This list does NOT include basic skill sets such as Chin Na, Chi Sao, or Push Hands. Nor does it include so-called masterwork styles such as Dim Mak, Iron Palm, Iron Shirt, Iron Body, Iron Head, Iron Crotch (yeah, that's right), Red Sand Palm, Bamboo-Parting Kung, etc.

Et tu, Brute. I'm glad you took the time out of your busy schedule to offer such a scathing put down. This really cleared me up. I will now go outside and do none of the previously listed athletic activities. Thank you for caring so much.

My list isnt the one-all-tell-all of martial arts lists. If you dont agree, write your own. I wanna know what you think is good. I'm not telling you what to think.

Is crouching tiger hidden pen0r a martial art? Cause' I know it very well. Some times I hid in dark alleys and when people come by *boom* I jump up and whip them with my pen0r. I heard it leaves red marks and bruises afterwards...

wait what is this list about? the most effective martial art or your favorite martial art? cause there truly is no one martial art that is more effective than any other, no matter what the UFC champs or whatever say.

so here are my top 10 FAVORITE (wich im sure I spelled wrong) Martial Arts
1. TKD
2. Jui-Jitsu
3. Nun-Jitsu
4. Boxing (maby not a martial art but I still like it, other than professional cause we all know thats fixed)
5. Shoto-Kan Karate
6. Capoira
7. Kung-Fu (whatever style bear, mantis, sitting lard ass, no offense but there are just too many to remember man)
8. Kick Boxing
9. Aikido
10. huh... lemme think, there are just so many to choose from... ok I pick: ALL OF THEM. For you see I like all martial arts equally, and I cant really pick one over the other to tell ya the truth.

btw, Topic starter why not join the Martial Arts club and try not to mind if peaple seem like idiots, that is just the way peaple are on NG ya know. I am only recomending you because you seem like sombody thats kinda mature and knows somthing about MA.

Shaolin is not a Martial Arts, its a life style of monks. The Martial Arts they pratice is the most powerful form of kungfu called Iron Kung Fu.

Styles that originated in, or are practiced in, the Shaolin temples are commonly referred to as Shaolin styles. Just like the term kung fu is used to refer to all Chinese martial styles even though that, too, is inaccurate.

JKD is not necessarily a martial arts style, per se. In fact, to call it a style is to go against its very philosophy. Bruce Lee had a lot of qualms late in his career about naming it JKD. If you read his books he says the name means nothing. Plus he didn't put every style into it. He did put a lot, though.
Mostly Wing Chun, Judo, Boxing, Fencing, karate, and cha-cha (that's right, in his younger days, he was the Hong Kong Cha-Cha Champion).

Hey uhh, What about the fighting style in Kung Pow: Enter the Fist

"If you have an ass, I'll kick it"
"Oh yea? Try my nuts-to-your-fists style!"

Bruce Lee never belived in a 'STYLE' of fighting but JKD is a type of martial arts else it would have no name and would just be Bruce Lee's way to fight however it is now taught as an actual type and style of fighting, Bruce also studied EVERY type of fighting even sumo lol thereore even if it is jst a step or movement im sure he once stated that every type had its place in his fighting style? wel hey what do i knw :P ive never read his book i just kno some info :D

Uhhh...I really don't know most of these martial arts styles, only the more common ones. But I'm quite curious to know more about the Eight Drunken Immortals style.
