I haven't looked at this thread for weeks because I hadn't kept up since Kill the Moon. I watched Mummy on the Orient Express, Flatline and in the Forest of the Night. Two great episodes and one okay episode. Kill the Moon wasn't too good, though. I like that the music isn't all the same shit we've been hearing for the last few years. It's refreshing to hear the score updated. The end of Mummy on the Orient Express when Clara wakes up on the shore is an example that comes to mind. I haven't watched Dark Water yet. Looks like the Brigadier's daughter and the girl with the inhaler are back?
There's something on which I want to hear people's thoughts. When the Doctor was talking to himself about 8 minutes into Mummy on the Orient Express, I hit rewind a few times. When he said "a mummy that only the victim can see" he sounded a lot like Tom Baker to me. Am I imagining things? Did anybody else notice this? The title of the episode already made me wonder if it was going to have anything to do with the stuff with the Osirians and all that. Of course, though, it didn't. But go back and watch that part. It's so weird. It reminded me of that episode where Matt Smith is duplicated and his copy goes "would you like a jelly baby?".

Sweet shout out to Eccleston's Doctor.
What do you mean? I must have missed this. I loved Eccleston.
edit: Oh, wait. "Are you my mummy?" lol How did I not catch that?
And that cover of Queen's "Don't Stop Me Now" was pretty cool
Also missed that. I might want to re-watch.

I quite enjoyed Mummy on the Orient Express.
I definitely don't understand the hate towards Clara. She's been absolutely fine this series. She was terrible before, but she's vastly better now, and she's certainly not the problem the recent episodes have been having.
I don't hate Clara herself. I just hate that she's Jebus. Jenna's done a good job
.
Adore Capaldi's Doctor and this is probably the episode he's had the most time to shine in, genuinely intrigued by the Gus stuff so I really hope that's part of the arc and not something they'll just drop now, and I really liked the scene between Clara and The Doctor at the end.
Gus sounds familiar. I wonder if I've heard the voice actor somewhere before. Made me think of the computer from Courage the Cowardly Dog and not as much, but sorta those machines in Demolition Man that fine people for profanity.

I enjoyed this episode. In fact, I am enjoying this season as a whole. The development of Capaldi's Doctor is great - he is bringing a very different style to the show. I especially like how they're throwing in him giving lectures with chalkboards and diagrams in sand like a stuffy professor. Those monologues are probably my favorite parts.
Yes, I really like those bits as well. I love Capaldi as this mean spirited mad scientist.

I enjoyed this week's episode as well! I like how it's not so reliant on returning monsters/villians.
I'm still wanting to see a return of a classic monster/villain (perhaps not for series 8 seeing as nothing has been brought back) but considering how well some of these episodes have been with new ideas, I'm happier with this direction. For writing his first Doctor Who stories here, Jamie Mathieson has made an impressive debut so I'm in favour of seeing him writing for some episodes for series 9.
I'm tired of Daleks and Cybermen, but I think they're required to use them within a certain timeframe in order to keep the rights to them. Some kind of weird legal trademark bullshit.

Yeeeeeeeeeeeeeah... That's no doubt the weakest story from the season.
Seriously, no. Nothing is topping Robot of Sherwood in badness this season. That and the ending of Listen with personal lord and savior Clara.
While it did have some moments, some things felt from out of nowhere and making statements that everyone will forget that an overgrown forest in London ever happened? Not buying it.
This isn't new at all, though. Think about Tenant's first episode. The whole world forgot about all of that shit. And the Stolen Earth. And Children of Earth. And the one with people getting sucked into their webcams. It happens a lot.
