Should I quit college?

Basically I'm very behind on my assignments, and have really no chance of catching up (which is my own fault), but I enjoy being in college, I like the friends I've made, but I think the course itself does not appeal to me anymore.

Anyone who has quit college before and have any regrets about it? Or no regrets, any advise?

I understand it's a personnal choice I will need to make, but this is something I feel I can't talk to my parents about at the moment.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thank you.

Well do you have plans for what you're gonna do if you do dropout?

Aslong as you're happy with what you've got, that's what matters.

If you really feel you won't be able to catch up, then quitting would be something to consider.

Otherwise, I'd say stay and try your damnedest to get current with your workload.

Fucking win.

Well if you're failing, it probly means you're not interested in the subject. Sure, you have yoru required general studies courses, but if you're not feeling your major, then change it. College is full of classes that are interesting, just read your course listings and find out what you want to take.

But, then again, college isn't for everybody.

A few things can be done from here:

If you find that your not enjoying the courses your taking, but only really enjoying the social side of college, a break could be good so that you can figure out where your true interests lie.

If you want to stay, even if your are behind on your work, try speaking with your professors and maybe an adviser or dean, because I'm sure they've dealt with this stuff before, and most can be pretty understanding if you're honest.

Make sure it's you that makes this decision. Your friends and your parents may not want you to leave for their own reasons, but don't stay if you truly don't want to be there. Many people take time off and go back with renewed enthusiasm. Good luck.

Please, Please put in a lot of effort to catch up.

I'd at least give everything I could to pass.
If it's Seriously an inevitable thing, then quit. But try like, Super hard.

Despite popular beliefs not everyone who finishes their education level at high school don't all end up in Mcdonalds. I have a part time job that pays good money and doesn't leave me smelling of grease, and a decent work experience placement that want to hire me.

Besides if I did work at Mcdonalds I would spit in all your burgers.

What are you taking? I think this all depends on a lot of things.

If you are willing to actually finish this course. If you have plans with the degree. If You can better time manage yourself. Maybe take a year off if you fail to miserably, or do a lighter course load and take more years of college ( which is also more social time). Do you enjoy you program, or would you rather switch into something else.

What are your goals and aims to being in college, or is this just to waste some years because college is the ideal place to go to after High School?

there are a ton of things you can alternately do that isnt just "stay or quit"

What career do you have planned after your graduation (or, now, perhaps dropout date)?
The military might be great for you, or you might have to stick it out. We can't really help you unless we know what you want to do and what most people with that current occupation did to get there.

I'm facing a similar choice myself you have to ask yourself a number of questions. If you really work maybe you could catch up on assignments? Perhaps you could beg your lecturer for a bit more time?

Would it be possible to just repeat next year? That way you could stay ini the college with friends etc

How long is the course because if you don't like it there is no point in staying for another four or so years. Then again talk to someone who has finished the course, perhaps it gets better as you get further on into it?

As long as you have a plan that you will be happy with, go for it. Although, most people would be able to answer this question better if they knew which year you were in.

I dropped out of college and landed a Federal job. But I have four years of military experience and that can help out. College really isn't needed as most people would have you believe. Just look at Bill Gates.

Don't quit college that's the dumbest thing to do. I know I wouldn't. I know friends, and girlfriends are important, but you have to have a future to have all those kind of things. You need to have a education to go anywhere.

If you're falling in those assignments that's your fault. Study more next time, and work, work, work, because that's the only kind of life you'll have. So, I'll say no don't quit college, but if that's the way you want it. But the real world is a horrible place.

Not needed, non needed, no one bled.

Course name: National Award in Animal Management

Basically my interests have always been with animals, from a young age I wanted to work with them, this course is just one year, and if you pass you can then do a higher one which is 2 years which I thought I wanted to do. I believe my whole career opinions have changed, and my friends are really the only reason I put up with the place.

My problem was I've been out of schoolwork for 2 years, I wasn't ready for the work load we got, and I got behind, quickly and I still am, it's not that I can't do the work, my brain is perfectly capable, my mind just says 'fuck it'.

If you are willing to actually finish this course. If you have plans with the degree. If You can better time manage yourself. Maybe take a year off if you fail to miserably, or do a lighter course load and take more years of college ( which is also more social time). Do you enjoy you program, or would you rather switch into something else.

I would probably like to do another course, maybe not with animals, maybe go back into ICT or just leave it, do some work and see how things go.

What are your goals and aims to being in college, or is this just to waste some years because college is the ideal place to go to after High School?

I'm not sure anymore.

I'm not sure anymore.

Maybe, you should take a year off. It's what I did before i jumped into college, since I wasnt 100 percent sure which field I wanted to take. Maybe even take the chance to travel, or work and save up. I mean, if you're willing to get your course done, then you should, but if you're really not sure, and can't find yourself to doing anything, it's not worth to waste the time and money there.

Sometimes college isnt for everyone, maybe this program isnt. I wouldnt say quit, but take a break. Go out and do something different and figure that shit out. No rush in figuring out your entire life right now anyways, so taking a year off shouldnt be anything too long or too short.

Exactly.
I'm taking a year and a bit off so I could work and "save". Hell, I have a spot in a nursing school, but I don't want to do that anymore (in 2 years time, bah). I am still slightly iffy on what I want to do, and I knew I didn't want to immediately jump into college/university if I didn't know what I wanted to do with my life. I also didn't want to waste the money on something I would most likely regret.

A lot of my friends basically went straight to university, and THEY don't know what to do, so they're wasting time and money for something they don't know if they'll know what they want to do with their life 5 years from now.

Sometimes college isnt for everyone, maybe this program isnt. I wouldnt say quit, but take a break. Go out and do something different and figure that shit out. No rush in figuring out your entire life right now anyways, so taking a year off shouldnt be anything too long or too short.

Shouldn't be a problem.

Take a break, gather your thoughts, start thinking about what you want to do, or at least have a general direction that you want to go. If you want to do something involving animals, go work in a pet store or a veterinary clinic cleaning up, even. Just work in the field you're thinking of pursuing, and go from there.

Don't be pressured to go to school when you're not ready for it. There are always those older, middle-aged people who go to university who finally decided to go back to school. :)

Hope you figure out what to do. :)

I have a lot of friends who've dropped out of college, and I can honestly say that they go through a pretty rough time. One of them is soon-to-be kicked out by his parents, so we're planning on getting an apartment together.

My only suggestion is that, if school is too difficult, take a short vacation and just go back ASAP.

I've thought about dropping out of college countless times. And sure, a college degree isn't what it used to be (ie: no job guarantee), but if you manage to finish everything and get your degree, you'll be glad you did.

I know of a kid that dropped out of highschool to play RUNESCAPE. True story.

From what you said, Gagsy, it seems like you are really lacking motivation. When I was a freshmen in college, around a year and a half ago, I had little motivation for my studies and it showed my first semester, which gave me a low starting out GPA. After that I realized I had to devote alot of time to studying because of my major, Electrical Engineering, where I get slammed with 3-4 hours of homework just from 1 hour of class. I always think to myself, "Why the hell are you putting up with all this homework and studying?" Then I remember that the payoff in the long run for me is a great paying job with many different fields I can go into, doing what I like best.

I know exactly how you feel when you are behind in a class and it seems like you can't catch up, it just takes ALOT of motivation to push yourself to do it, because high school sure as hell never gave me homework and it was a breeze to get through.

If you have a backup plan after quitting college, and that backup plan holds some guarantess like benefits, then go on hiatus with college.but personally I think you should attempt to finish college, and that work. Depending on what you want to do in life you should pursue it.But think about it more.Because I know Im going to college, and I want to get the money later in life.

So...you pay for something that you aren't even going to pay attention to.

Way to go man. I would suggest NOT dropping out of college, but it seems as if you have let that boat sail.
