Starfighter Beta 3

OK...some of you guys seemed pissed of at me. This is my first game and is a "BETA" there is no objective so far. The only reason I put this up was to show my friends. Also seeing it is a BETA the title is in progress. My friend suggested "Attack of the Peratrons" which I though was stupid so I decided to put up Starbomber but as the game changed from a bombing game i decided to change it to starfighter. I speak truefuly when i say this. I DIDN'T KNOW IT WAS TAKEN. I would be happy to change it if someone else has a cooler map. Also any suggestions are welcome.

Needs lots of work.

The graphics were for the most part pretty well done, but that's basically the only good thing I can say about this. Menus seemed to be traps... if Options was clicked, or the Credits link within Options, the game had to be closed to get back to the main menu. Also, the Quit link on the main menu was useless, as it didn't seem to do anything. Dragging the mouse to the very bottom or very right of the screen squashed the display... also, the whole display moved when the ship was moving, which was extremely annoying. There was no instruction, so I had no idea what the heck to do, nor did I know why when I left-clicked a big green box showed up in front of the ship. Furthermore, only one bullet could be fired at a time; if more than one was fired, the first would be cancelled to start the most recent shot. Additionally, the gunfire sound effects in the only level available were HORRIBLY annoying!! Take those out immediately, it's a huge detractor from, well, everything as it's frigging constant. Certain artwork also overlapped others; for example, the big ship covered up the player's gunfire. Your game's title says "Starfighter Beta 3", but the game called itself "Starbomber." Also, the Multiplayer link doesn't work (why include the link if it doesn't work?) and forces the player to close the game to get back to the main menu.

Lots and lots of problems, and I didn't even know how to play the game. All I did was fly around and shoot at the ships that were following me, even though I couldn't kill them.

In response to one of your statements earlier about the buttons. I never really noticed missing buttons because I would always close it after testing something. The "Quit" button only works when it is a separate "swf." or projector file. I really hate the glitch caused by dragging the mouse to the bottom. I haven't really focused on it because I had other things to fix. Audio is only a placeholder and the green box is a weapon to replace the other one as to let you fire multiple shoots. That was added recently so its a green box. I get a bit weird when it comes to place holders!!!

Thank you very much for the feed back you have given me!

good idea, but poorly done

The game would have a nice flow, and its generally a cool idea.
But some basic problems destory everything. What am I supposed to do? (btw: Most people don't like to read tons of instructions.) Its ok that your graphic skills are not as good as your coding skills, but why is everything so freaking big? I'm not blind! I think thats another big problem of your game, because it makes your graphics even worse.

But don't give up!
Team up with a graphic artist or something ...

It seemed an awful mess...

Good idea, but hardly anything worked - maybe you should include a 'Back' button for the options and credits (otherwise I just looped between your two names, which was annoying), When I clicked on play, I had no idea what to do, where to go, or anything! When I did eventually click on something, the game itself was confusing - instructions might be good, as well as making it clear WHERE the practice mission actually is.

As for gameplay...what the hell were those green boxes that appeared everytime I clicked somewhere? Even on the communications box - which, in turn, didn't do anything. Also, when I finally discovered, for myself, that Space was fire, it didn't matter - nothing got shot! Now, maybe I was shooting all the wrong things, but I don't think so,

Visual-wise, this looks pretty impressive. It's just a shame it's so messy right now...

need work

- needs instructions
- needs maybe tracking or directions
its good but I had no idea what to do.

keiranlovett responds:

I am working on a pointer at the corner of the screen to tell you where to go. In the mean time use the coordinates on the left top corner to navigate.

bugs

its good but their are some bugs
