Update - 12/23/2017 1:11pm EST - We've gone in and added some tutorial text to the current level to offer some guidance in areas in the first half. Ben's jump has also been modified to give it a more natural feel and look (it's definitely better now).

Update - 12/19/2017 1:38pm EST - Modified interaction with crushers in section 1 as well as implemented a health system for all enemies and a refresh period for Ben's attack.

Update - 12/18/2017 4:13pm EST - Fixed an issue where the player could get stuck in the walls surrounding the elevator in section two.

{The current iteration available here (v0.1) is a single level demo. Additional content will be added as development continues. All feedback and criticism is welcome (especially if it's negative... just be nice about it)!}

This is Benjamin, a little robot who seems to have found himself in the refuse department of some unknown location. How did he get there? He isn't sure. But if he does know one thing, it's that he needs to escape!

Benjamin is a platformer shooter inspired by the likes of Mega Man in terms of gameplay and art style created by Rage Tank Games as our first project ever!

As Ben, fight your way through multiple levels as you attempt to find your way out of this strange and dangerous place he's had the misfortune to be tossed into!

Could use checkpoints.
Also, the crushing things with spikes freeze.

KilvenDeneras responds:

Hey,

Thanks for playing the game! Really appreciate it.

At the moment, there are two checkpoints in the level: one shortly after the crushers you mentioned and one closer to the boss encounter.

In regards to the crusher, if you have a moment to PM me and tell me a little bit more about the issue you saw, I'm sure I can go in and attempt to fix it.

Thanks for your time!

That's a nice platformer! Can't wait for the full version.

What I liked:
-The graphics.
-Interesting colour scheme .
-Controls that work pretty well.
-Fitting music and sound effects.
-Interesting character desings.
-The game loads pretty fast.
-It's not overly complicated.

I think that in the full game you should add a tutorial. At the beginning, I was a bit confused so it would be really helpful. It would be a nice touch if you could add the option to mute sounds.

(English isn't my native language, so sorry for any mistakes)

KilvenDeneras responds:

Thank you very much for the high praise! We are certainly aiming to deliver well with future content!

You're absolutely right about designing a better learning tool, which we are working on. Hopefully, we'll have something properly effective thought up soon.

Just a few suggestions.

Make the sound effects lower than the volume of the actual music, wall jumping just interrupts and it feels awkward.

Since the art style for the game is pixel art, I would strongly recommend MortMort, he's really helpful and has a handful of tutorials to help you.

I feel like a tutorial at the beginning would be better and text below the start screen saying "Press To Enter" or something, because I was a bit confused at first.

Overall, it's slightly better than most games here, good platforming and more.
3.5/5.

KilvenDeneras responds:

Hey,

Thank you for the feedback! The visuals and sfx are definitely things we are working to better ourselves with. We should start to have better ideas of how to design and implement these elements as we continue though.

I really appreciate the reference to MortMort, by the way. We'll be sure to check out his channel, it looks extremely helpful!

's okay. Regular enemies are so easy they might as well not be there most of the time. On the other hand, the crushers at the start were a pain (probably shouldn't be an instakill if you're not making contact with their underside. Also, need a better indication of which way the conveyors are running). The lifebar was really unnecessary up until the boss (which was the definite highlight)

KilvenDeneras responds:

Hey there,

Thanks for taking the time to write this review. Balance is definitely something that could use a rework in regards to enemies and I'm currently considering a few options to enhance the experience!

-KilvenDeneras

Smooth gameplay and animations, I like it. It's annoying how many things kill you instantly, though, especially since it takes several seconds to respawn.

KilvenDeneras responds:

Thanks for playing!

We're definitely still working things out in terms of balance in that regards, and certainly have a lot to consider and learn. We'll only strive to get better!
