Stick Police episode 1

Share Collapse

The first episode is finally done, but I'm a little disappointed by the animation.
I realized I need more work to improve it, so next episode is definitely gonna be better.

I don't mind the idea of bringing the classic stick figure fights in 3D, but there's some things I'd like to point out to help make another take on this more enjoyable to watch.

-The camera work is often odd. Like in the first person scene, why is the camera following the gun and not the head. In the desk scene, why cut just barely moving the camera to him picking up the phone, then cut back just barely zooming back out. Either zoom the other camera in more into his face to make it more of a cut, otherwise have it in one shot.

-There's a whole build up scene but with no actual build up. The guy's on the phone, leaves, then shoots people. There's not much going on to follow. This scene is better off left out to focus more on the meat of the video.

-The street just cuts off into a void. You should be crafty about it and cover the view with something. A lot of making this stuff is figuring out how to be lazy when you need to. Creative laziness helps a lot!

-There's a lot of clash in visual consistency. The environment doesn't go with the stick figures which doesn't go with the weapons. Some work should be done on getting the look down. New materials, new models, and more consistent texture work.

- Some sound effects aren't loud enough, like the gun at 1:45. Or not enough sound effects exist, too much silence during movement.

I feel taking these suggestions into account even a little would bump up the quality quite a bit.

GameDevWannabe responds:

I like the breakdown, thanks.

I will improve my model too, they are full of NGONS, this was way back when I didn't know about inverse kinematic too.

And I didn't even bother watching animation tutorial on camera, character movement.
The animation was deemed to fail from the beginning.
Still improving !

What software did you use for this? Blender?

GameDevWannabe responds:

Yup ! The one and only Blender 3D ! (2.79)
:D

Pretty neat. You put a lot of effort into this and I like the extra effects you included too.

GameDevWannabe responds:

Thanks man !
