OneyPlays Animated: Political Kermit

Share Collapse

COMMENTARY

My client, MatterBoar, gave me a choice between three bits to animate: Political Kermit, The Worst Thing Zach Ever Did, and Hacking Your AIDS. I didn’t find any of them particularly funny, but I enjoyed the Political Kermit one the most because it had the most character interaction potential. He wanted for me to start making OneyPlays Animated cartoons for him more often, so he told me to put less effort into them to increase productivity. Understandable since the previous two cartoons took me months to make. So, this cartoon is made of only keyframes and no in-betweens. I did do my best to make the expressions, camera shots, and backgrounds as nice as I could! I struggle to call this an OneyPlays Animated when there is so little actual animation, but the average let’s player fan probably doesn’t know what an “animatic” is, so it would hurt the SEO. I hope that the live-action Kermit adds some novelty to it!

The original plan was to animate a cartoon Kermit the same as Chris and co., but then I had the idea to use live-action. The new plan was to use an actual Kermit puppet and use a blue screen to chroma key Kermit out. I do own a green/blue screen, but unfortunately all the decent looking Kermit puppets I could find on eBay, Amazon, and Etsy were $250 at least (and one REALLY good one for $1,000!). I settled for a $30 one.

The background art is based off of a Sesame Street set. I tried to get the background art to look nice, but I don’t know how to digitally paint. So, I commissioned my friend Skylar (@twilipoe) to make the background. She requested that she try mixed media! The end result is strange, but fitting since this is a live-action-animation hybrid. The final result ended up reminding me of Ralph Bakshi’s solarized live-action footage from The Lord of the Rings.

EDIT 3.30.2022 — Both my friend @themaskedmonocle’s OneyPlays Animated and my video got frontpaged! Thank you very much! Here is her animation! It’s pretty great! ^_^

Love how chunky and derpy the Kermet puppet is

Alyxandr responds:

Thank you! I envisioned a replica puppet, but it was $1,000, so I was like "the $30 will do 😭"

I love your Kermit impersonation and puppet! Awesome!

Alyxandr responds:

It wasn't my impression, it was @oneyplays! And I do really like that puppet. I'll have to iron out his crumpled-up, little neck piece and use him again someday!

legend has it, every OneyPlays Animated video will get referenced in Smiling Friends one way or another... this means Political Kermit is canon now

O ayde u got da front payge!

Love the end part when kerment bites the stick lol

Alyxandr responds:

I got frontpaged??? :O :O :O
