The Duck Wars: Scythe of Shadows

In a realm of valor and darkness, turmoil grips the land. Sinister skeletons, commanded by the mysterious Scythebearer, scour the kingdom. Their mission: to abduct the countless clones of Captain Quackers, the legendary pirate duck, in their unyielding quest for the genuine treasure map.

Amidst this chaos emerges Sir Quibble, a knight with unyielding spirit and a glint of determination. Guided by a singular vision from the original Captain Quackers, Sir Quibble embarks on a noble journey. His quest is to liberate the captured clones and unravel the Scythebearer's malevolent intentions.

The kingdom's fate is uncertain. But as shadows loom, the bravery of one knight stands as the beacon of hope. The Duck Wars rage on, leading to a final battle where destinies will be decided.

Treasure Hunt review!

### Aesthetics: 5 / 10

There are some nice effects but none of the art looks particularly good.

### Originality: 2 / 10

Even if Vampire Survivors was never made, there would still be plenty of games like this.

### Challenge: 7 / 10

This really has a surprising amount of challenge for a grindy upgrade fest. I feel like skill has a bigger part to play than the power obtained from leveling, particularly because there's a lot of strategy involved in picking the right upgrades. There's also a lot of skill involved in moving around and finding a path through the chaos, even though attacking is automatic.

### Fun factor: 6 / 10

I am again surprised by how fun this was, considering that it's a game where I have to replay the same thing over and over again for hours. It feels really polished, like a lot of care was given to balance.

### Content: 9 / 10

Tons of interesting enemies and weapons and upgrades, and the upgrades come in two forms: the shop between plays and the level-up cards. It's just too bad it's all played in one bare room.

### Total: 29 / 50

(The Treasure Hunt review score is different from the standard Newgrounds review score because it uses different criteria.)

at first, i thought it was taking too long to progress, too grindy, but it was worth it in the end, I got everything maxed out. I used a cheat engine to speed things up a bit. The boss was rlly ez

Addictive!

Updates and balancing are looking solid so far. Albeit, it was a little frustrating trying to find this game again since I didn't have a good way to trace it after being deleted, but all's well with the overall rework. There is still resolution issues regarding the game (text in shop upgrades are a tad hard to read), but I'm to figure that these bits will be adjusted in later fixes once you've gotten the core of the game finished up to a satisfying means or what-have-you.

The only thing I'd suggest going forward if you plan to update the current living game or slash it to post an updated version would be to leave behind some notes in the Author Comments of what changes have been made so that there'd be things to look out to compare perhaps.

Anyhow, I am genuinely interested in the progress of this game and will make sure to follow to keep tabs on updates.

I didn't know about that (don't have the issue myself), but I'll see if I can reproduce it.

How I will progress depends on how many people actually plays it. Not much point in going on without an actual audience. Current plan is to keep polishing and then release on Steam if I am satisfied with the state of things. Will be slow, though, since my vacation is over ;)
