Reviews for "Spell Guardian"

I really like this game, particularly the level design (which reminds me somewhat of the Marble Zone from Sonic 1, because I'm old) - the difficulty curve is just hard enough to keep it compelling and yet infuriating. I could have used some more common save points, but I can't criticise you for me being bad at the game ;)

IceDrumGames responds:

Thank you for the feedback! I wanted to make some challenge to the player this is why there is no checkpoint on the each level, but after release I think that this was the mistake

Game looks great - Through it's laggy with Opera on Windows 10, making the game play fastidious - I keep re-spawning near the first spikes, so I wish there more more save spots and that we didn't need to restart from zero.
Like other have said, controls don't feel great... and as each player is different, imo, customization seems the best option. (imo, controls are so so important: If players can't get confortable with the controls, the game won't be played. Also remember that there are many types of keyboard on this planet: QWERTZ, QWERTY, AZERTY...)

Anyways, as lag might just be a personal issue, I'll ignore it and rate 5/5. Keep it up!:)

IceDrumGames responds:

Thank you for the feedback! I don't really know about your problem with respawning and the problem with the controls is the main problem.

The level design on this is fantastic. It feels like a lot of time has been spent play testing to get the difficulty curve correct. A criticism I have is I'm not overly keen on the art style which doesn't appear consistent across the assets. For example, some of the background elements have a black outline whereas the characters do not. This draws focus onto the background elements, instead of the foreground elements (i.e. characters).
I did not check if there was gamepad support but the controls would likely be more comfortable on a gamepad.

IceDrumGames responds:

Thank you for the review! All of the game assets except music and sound effects were made by myself and I am not the best artist :D There is no gamepad support. I wanted to do it but couldn't allow because of lack of time and broken gamepad.

Great game, with a lot of potential for a full fledged title. My only problem and hence I substracted half a star, the final boss had some rather cheap moves, like sending 3 special attacks at you AT THE SAME TIME. There was absolutely no way of avoiding that.

IceDrumGames responds:

Thank you!
It was a bug, he shouldn't work this way.

The game is fun. But please add in a tutorial text for what kind of key you need to press. For example "use dash to dash" It pissed me off trying to find the right key for dashing. It just ruined the flow of gameplay for a new player

Overall I love the dash mechanics. Enjoying the game because it's challenging. You get to experiment and play around with the double jump and dash mechanics while in combat or doing platforming at the same time

Tip: You need to fully upgrade your sword in order to beat the final boss. And spam your ultimate when the boss summoned his minion. The sword is best weapon for crowd control
