You cannot stop the inevitable.
D-Day Defender is all about surviving the D-Day attack by the Allied forces for as long as possible. There is no winning.
- Aim slightly in front of the thing you are aiming to kill. This will be more accurate than placing the cursor on top of the enemy.
- Fire at groups of enemies for better efficiency and fire at stragglers last.
- Reload whenever you feel safe to (ie when the majority of the stronger units of the wave is killed) but try not to let your ammo go below half as the downtime to reload more than half a bar is too long.
- Kill the heaviest units first and make your way down. First airplanes, tanks, jeeps, rocketeers, grenadiers, machine gunners, then riflemen.
- Listen for the airplanes and start shooting in the air as soon as you hear the sound. Airplanes shot down after half-way across the screen will still damage you. You can tell when a airplane is shot down by the bullets going through and past the plane.
- Save mortar shots and engineer power-ups for when you really need it. You should use them when your health is below 50% and are facing a major wave.
- Hold click and Reload at the same time to be able to shoot faster and stay at max ammo. You will have to worry about overheating though. Also this unfortunately seems to skipping in-game cutscenes. My advice with this is to use it until you get close to a cutscene then resume using it afterwards.

As far as I can tell there are at least 4 cutscenes: Intro, immediately after your 100th kill, after 25hrs showing the tanks, and after 50 hours.
Pacifist - Die without killing a single enemy - 10 Points
'Cannon fodder - Kill 100 footsoldiers - 25 Points
Collateral - Take out least 5 enemies with one explosion - 25 Points
You'll get this in the process of playing the game normally.
Flak expert - Shoot down 6 enemy airplanes - 25 Points
You'll get this in the process of playing the game normally
Panzerschreck - Destroy 6 tanks - 25 Points
Getting the hang of it - Stay alive for 50 hours - 50 Points
Hang in there - Regain your health after nearly dying - 50 Points
Easiest done at the start of the game by letting the riflemen hit you until you are very low on health then killing them and healing back up slowly.
Massacre - Destroy 500 enemies - 50 Points
Get out more - Survive for 250 hours - 100 Points
Master tactician - Chain 4 explosions - 100 Points
This is possible later in the game when more vehicles are arriving. Make sure you are at full health then try to get 4 vehicles on-screen while holding off the infantry. Follow up with a mortar attack and try to get them all down quickly.
