Newgrounds Wiki: Tsunami Fighter

5 Medals (50 points)

Tsunami Fighter is a fighting game starring Domo-kun, who must save Japan from a deadly tsunami. As a charity game, it was designed to promote donations to relief efforts following the recent earthquake in Japan.

Instructions & Gameplay

The goal of the game is to prevent a series of six waves from reaching the shore. This is achieved by rapidly pressing ("mashing") the keys that are shown on the screen. The keys are the same every time, so you may want to try to memorize them:

  • Wave 1 - space bar
  • Wave 2 - left and right arrows
  • Wave 3 - Q, W, E
  • Wave 4 - A, F, H, L
  • Wave 5 - Q, Z, P, N
  • Wave 6 - Q, Z

The time counter is only an indicator of your speed; there is no time limit. However, pay attention to the "tsunami meter" at the top of the screen; if it reaches the red smiley, it's game over.

Medals

Tsunami Fighter has five medals with a total of 50 points:

Big Heart (5 points)

Click on any donate button.

Although it's not required, I really hope that you'll at least consider making a donation.

Speedy (5 points)

Beat the game with a score of under 500.

Complete the game before the time counter hits 500. This one's a piece of cake.

Wavey (5 points)

Beat the game on the first difficulty setting.

Unless you absolutely suck at "button mashing" games, you should be able to get this medal on your first try.

Surf Crasher (10 points)

Beat the game on the second difficulty setting.

Same as above.

Tsunami Crasher (25 points)

Beat the game on the last difficulty setting.

The last wave is a bit tricky, but it shouldn't take more than a few tries.

Note to Windows users

Having trouble with the fifth wave? On Windows systems, pressing Q, Z and P at the same time may overload the keyboard buffer. If this happens, the computer will emit a beep, and certain keys will not work. The simplest solution is to use either of the following key combinations instead:

  • Q, Z, N
  • Q, N, P

It is possible to beat the game by using just three keys, even on the hardest difficulty level.
