There's a new link going around for the "newgrounds toolbar" virus. I think its a scam. The account pming people just signed up today.

Talifags is the user who pmed me. I'm not going to post the link. But the pm just describes updates and things like that. What is described would need your password regardless, and any .NET program could communicate via the internet and phish your password. Unless you know and trust an individual implicitly, you shouldn't be installing this kind of software. And even if you think you do know them, you should question the idea of installing such a thing.

Feel free to report or add as you receive a pm, probably will be multiple users over the life of this one...

If I may, this is far bigger than some simple spammer. this is a user attempting to hack or scam other users. Brian is simply trying to warn those who are more gullible.

Of course not, but I just turned at least one idiot into a non-idiot. How many people here even know what .NET is. Probably you, since you know what a virtual machine is, but probably not many others.

Which is the point of the topic, not to whine about some stupid pm I got that I was smart enough to avoid, but to make sure people have a chance to not be idiots. And yeah, you having a list of who is doing what is going to help Wade eventually delete them all. Its pretty standard protocol to try and compile a list of users when something like this happens.

While I agree that spam is nothing new or exciting on the internet, the NG PM system has the lovely option of adding users BEFORE they spam your inbox. Thing is, you need to know their names before it's of any use. Ergo, threads like this have helped me (and probably several other people) keep the spam from reaching it in the first place, so telling people about spam PMs does serve a small but legitimate purpose IMO.

The easiest kinds of account to guess the password for are ones set up by kids years ago, before the hacking crap started. Ergo, most of the accounts that get yeeked are obviously n00bish in nature, and most of those have something to do with sonic or mario. Seeing waves of stolen sonic accounts is hardly surprising, given the naivety of people who usually make them.
