What?! Could it be...??? Yes! It is! The Newgrounds Audio Underdogs Contest is back for a second year!
The NGAUC is an audio contest here on NG that's designed to allow talented yet not-so-well-known musicians on the site get some helpful feedback and gain some attention in the NG Audio Community. It's hosted by yours truly, a not-so-clean-shaven teenager from suburban Massachusetts. OH RIGHT! The legend thing...I forgot. Allow me to introduce this contest the proper way:
For it came to pass that the land of Newgrounds was once again hostile and segregated. Isolated tribes of savages roamed the scorched earth, feeding on the pain of others as they zero-bombed submissions. Since the last Cleansing of the Portal, some members of the Cooperative Allegiance had fallen into inactivity, and many other commoners had forgotten the wise teachings of the greasy-haired teenage angel TheDoor6.
The angel was in hiding, for the humble dominion of Newgrounds ran rampant with danger. And while the angel was in hiding, he changed his name to TaintedLogic. Then, one day a new group of disciples found the angel, and these disciples were known as @BlazingDragon, @Johnfn, @LiquidOoze, @Lockyn, @Neon-Bard, @Samulis, @SkyeWint, and @SoundChris. Together, the angel and his disciples recognized that the only way to rediscover the glory days of Newgrounds was to brave the desolate land once again in order to create a unified and supportive community of musicians once again.
Yup, that's pretty much the goal. Here's what to do if you want to take advantage of this new-found glory:
You have until Wednesday, July 15th at 11:59 P.M. EDT to submit your tryout piece for the contest. To do so, simply post it in this thread (with no HTML, please). This piece can either be made from scratch for the competition, or can be a track you previously wrote. It must be your own original work, generally comply with NG Audio Portal rules, and display your musical/compositional ability (as opposed to voice acting, etc.) at its finest. You can change which piece you’re auditioning with, but ONLY ONCE. In order to do so, you need to clearly state in the thread that you’d like to change it, and provide the new piece you want us to judge.
The competitors will then be split into three groups of equal size - the Underdogs, the Professional Amateurs (Prof Ams) and the All Stars - based on how many fans they have (the people with the fewest fans are Underdogs, the most fans are All Stars, and the middle third are Prof Ams). This way, it's more likely that the true underdogs among the competitors will advance further in the contest than if they were competing directly with, say, the All Stars.
On Monday, July 20th, a new thread will be created to allow 2 weeks for the remaining competitors to create a new piece to be judged, and after that there is a 3rd and final round. Details are soon to follow. The winner of the competition is scheduled to be announced on August 17th.
Although we have yet to confirm prizes for the competition, prizes last year included forum signatures, having your audio front-paged for up to a week, and even a special feature on a radio show hosted by @Bad-Man-Incorporated. Sounds good, right?
And, of course, in the spirit of the new-found glory of Newgrounds, we encourage you to review each other's pieces and interact positively with your fellow competitors. You may do so in this thread, but please keep the conversations relevant to the competition.
I'd like to extend a HUGE thank you in advance to my disciples (i.e., judges): @BlazingDragon, @Johnfn, @LiquidOoze, @Lockyn, @Neon-Bard, @Samulis, @SkyeWint, and @SoundChris, AND @Camoshark for generously agreeing to take on an administrative role in the contest. ;)
Lastly, please check out the complete set of rules, some of which I didn't include here for concision's sake.
Now if you'll excuse me, I'm going to go watch a hell of a lot of Wimbledon.
May the competition...BEGIN! >:D
