Reviews for "The Enemy Within (old)"

Good atmospheric flash

It was a very good sprite movie. The strongest point of this by far was the unique atmosphere it had. Even though the thing felt and looked alot like 'mario reloaded', the awesome backgrounds, nice light effects, nice 'camera work' and fast pace still gave it it's own identity.

However the thing had too many flaws to become really great. First of all, the plot or story or whatever was very poor. Mario sees Luigi in a dream and feels Luigi needs help. When Mario arrives some kind of dark Mario comes outa nowhere to kill Luigi for an unexplained reason. The story was obviously just an excuse to animate the fighting scene.

But what annoyed me more was the sudden switch of style between the animated sprites to the weird combination of sprites with tweened limbs. During the fighting scene the 2 characters looked really weird. And why did u have to put a 3d scene in it like Mario Reloaded? I dont think that a sprite movie can be combined well with 3d effects.

The matrix music worked surprisingly well i have to admit. Still i would have liked to see some voiceacting for the silent dialogue. But i can imagine that wouldnt fit cause the thing is already over 6 megs.

The end of the thing was really rushed. Mario, all weakened and defeated suddenly manage to kill his stronger brother. It was pretty cheap if u ask me.

But overall the thing wasnt bad. Just try to perfect it more next time, especially since u consider this your masterpiece.

im dizzZzy

ok i can see you put alot of work into that...and maybe at some points TOO MUCH work. sigh...lets just get to the problems..
1) Too much of that annoying and dizzying layered world stuff that Randy Solemn made so popular.
2)Wasn't nearly enough plot. Or none maybe. Im so dizzy i cant remember.
3)As much work as you put into most of the movie you took the easy way out in the big important battle scene. Tsk, tsk.
D) No funny makes me sad.
5)STOP WITH THE GAWD DAMNED CAMERA MOVIN'!!!! so...dizzy.
6)Why were there vines everywhere? Mario was climbing 'em like Link...Cross game refrences also makes me sad.
7) im done...bye bye.

As far as sprite animation goes, I’ve seen nothing like it. You were definitely thinking outside the box.

But the story is so used; it’s not even funny. I mean how much more predictable can you get?

Ok that last comment was a little harsh, I’ve seen MUCH, much worse.

In all it’s pretty good

Thanks....i guess...

This was a good cartoon, but I admit that it had flaws. The closeups were pretty dumb. It's hard to do that with sprites. It seems like Mario flashes here haven't gone to hand drawn stuff either. I didn't understand where this thing came from. It was still nice.

I thought it was awesome to see how you used perspective in this. I wasn't sure where Mario was going in the beginning! The music was great too. I guess most of these were inspired by "Rise Of The Mushroom Kingdom". They're still good in their own right.

too bad

This could have been realy good but the camera sucks... i don't like watching those damn pixels so close!!!

GAMECUBICLE responds:

Dont know if you noticed it, but the camera actullay movies a lot... thats pretty hard to do.
