Reviews for "BattleMage"

a little work and it would be great

Its ok as it stands, but a little difficult and the graphics need alot of work. If this was a first timer I'd say it was a good first start, but a little more time is definetly needed. Enjoyable for a few minutes, but I'll stick to my Mario Bros. for the graphics and gameplay.

Arclite83 responds:

More time... lol.
All the time in the world won't make my graphics better.

Yeah, that clinches it, I'm getting an artist for BM2...

Not perfect

Great game, one issue. The pictures of the main character and the person who you are talking with in the textmessages, are horrible. The backgrounds and level designes were good, though. Music was okay, not great and the puzzles were fun. Good platformer, not one to remember. Keep it up!

Great game

But, I don't know if this is a bug or not...

I was going to buy a sword, but it won't let me, even if I have the necessary amount of gold. Also, I tried cycling after that... and I got all the weapons, and after the cycle, I have no more weapon to attack. I can't cycle back either. Please respond ASAP. I really want to finish this game, yet I don't want to start all over again

Arclite83 responds:

Hmmm, not sure what you did. The weapons are set to cycle after they reach the max, but yours obviously aren't. Basically, weapons are 1-5, and it sounds like you're much higher than that. Try reloading with your code; if it resets to where you need it, cool. If not, your save is corrupted from whatever happened, and you'll have to restart from a previous one.

And people complaining about saves being long; you can cut and paste them! Just paste it all in the first box, cut the second part, paste in the second box, and delete the hyphen. Quick and painless.

Cool... Good work

[BAD: ]
When the badguys come in a bunch, it gets quite hard... Actually a flaw but I just find it a little stressful. When I get the hang out of it, it'll be OK. And you need to fix the loading. I'll tell you how.

[GOOD:]
It reminds me of one of my games and also Megaman X series. That's cool. The 3D is also cool. You used my first AG preloader and that's cool too!

[My rating: 4 stars. Wooo!]

Fixing the loading:
I believe that loading problem is caused by a lot of stuff (usually those symbols that you define for linkage export) being loaded in the first frame. Those stuff blocks off the loading page because in order for the preloader to come out, everything in the first frame (80% of the game) has to be displayed. You can try to test your movie in flash and open the bandwidth profiler thing. Check if the first frame that is to be loaded contains a high byte size.

If this is the case, the solution is to create an empty frame somewhere that WILL NOT be part of the game. Maybe in a new scene at the back. Insert all movie clips (with linkage) on the stage there. Then in the library, uncheck "Export in first frame" for all the movie clips that you just dragged on to the stage. This basically just asks flash not to load everything (that needs to be exported) on the first preloader frame and load it instead somewhere at the back.

I hope that is the case and solves your problem. Sorry for typing this in the review section but the author requested.

Arclite83 responds:

Yeah, I tried that; I made a new frame in the back, added a clip, and a music file, and unchecked both; neither showed up in the game afterwards. Not sure what I did wrong... if you could help, my email is cmahar@hotmail.com - get it in touch with me there.

Now for your comments:
The bad guys need to be fixed, and I have a way of doing that for BM2, I think. Some of them are just too tough: I mean, they aren't for me, but then, I've been playing this game essentially for a year. I think I need to take that more into account next time.
As for the graphics; yes, they suck at times. I'm not an artist, I'm a programmer. The few that are ok come from sprites that have been drawn over - if the main character reminds you of megaman, that's because his walk cycle was the basis for the animation. Hence, the credit to PMM in the credits.

great game

i cant wait for the next one.
